On the afternoon of September 29, the Nghe An Department of Health said that storm No. 10 (Bualoi) with strong gusts of wind and heavy rain lasting from the evening of September 28 to the morning of September 29 caused a lot of damage to the local health system.
According to statistics as of 4:30 p.m. the same day, the entire industry had 37/49 medical facilities and units affected, with total estimated damage of more than 26.9 billion VND.
Hung Nguyen Medical Center and local medical stations suffered damage due to storm No. 10.
At Nghe An Lung Hospital, the generator stopped working at 2am, forcing some patients on ventilators to be temporarily transferred to the Provincial Friendship General Hospital. At Hoang Mai Medical Center, the rising river water caused flooding over 1m deep; thanks to proactively moving patients and equipment to the 2nd floor, medical examination and treatment have now gradually stabilized.
Some units suffered heavy damage to facilities such as Anh Son District Medical Center with an estimated loss of about 4 billion VND, many buildings had their roofs blown off, the lighting system and many other medical equipment were damaged...
Thanh Chuong General Hospital had its roof blown off four two-story buildings, many auxiliary equipment damaged, estimated damage of 2 billion VND. Nghi Loc Medical Center had its corrugated iron roof blown off, part of its wall collapsed, damage of about 1.7 billion VND.
In addition, the Trauma - Orthopedic Hospital, Dien Chau General Hospital, Social Protection Center suffered 1.5 billion VND in damage, the General Friendship Hospital suffered more than 1.4 billion VND in damage... Besides, there were 2 units that had some medical equipment damaged, including the Eye Hospital and the Rehabilitation Hospital 2 in Cua Lo due to rising sea levels.
"The damage to the physical facilities at the units includes houses with blown roofs, blown corrugated iron roofs, doors, ceilings, and fallen trees. However, the safety of staff and inpatients is guaranteed," said the leader of the Nghe An Provincial Department of Health.
According to Nghe An Department of Health, heavy rain is still occurring, many units have lost network and power, and the damage situation cannot be fully estimated. The Department continues to grasp and update information on damage at units to promptly direct and support post-storm recovery work, and maintain medical examination and treatment activities for people.
