Foreign Minister Wang Yi: Russia

Speaking at a joint press conference after meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on April 9, during Lavrov's visit to Beijing, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said bilateral relations must always be based on the principles of non-alliance, non-confrontation and not targeting any third party.

According to Mr. Wang Yi, both sides support countries pursuing dialogue instead of confrontation, cooperation instead of alliance, and promoting the building of a global community with a shared future. He stressed that China and Russia must promote mutually beneficial cooperation, promote comprehensive and globally beneficial economic globalization, oppose unilateralism and protectionism, and protect the stability of the global supply chain.

The Chinese foreign minister suggested that the two countries promote a multipolar world of equality and order, believe that all countries, regardless of their size, should be treated equally, oppose hegemony and power politics , and promote democracy in international relations. Wang Yi added that China and Russia support the central role of the United Nations in the global governance system, stressing their willingness to strengthen international coordination.

This year, Beijing and Moscow are ready to have “close high-level contacts in various forms” and strive to “carefully build relations” and cooperate according to the agreements reached between the two countries’ leaders, Wang Yi was quoted by Russia’s TASS news agency as saying.

Also at the press conference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow appreciated Beijing's unbiased and balanced stance on the Ukraine issue, welcoming China's willingness to play an active role in resolving the crisis through political and diplomatic means.
