The man without any formal education built his own airplanes and warships.

TPO - From his childhood passion, Mr. Nguyen Phuong De has researched and created dozens of realistic models of warships, aircraft carriers, yachts, etc. The models Mr. De makes cost from several million to tens of millions of dong, and are sought after by many people at home and abroad.

Sharing with PV , Mr. Nguyen Phuong De (48 years old, living in Chau Thanh district, An Giang ) said that his love for boats has been with him since childhood. Without going through specialized training, he learned by himself through books, movies and observing reality to experiment with making models. In 2018, he started making his first model.

At first, Mr. De used foam to create small ships, but the more he made them, the more sophisticated and larger the products became. “I work in the sound and lighting rental business, and have had the opportunity to travel to many places, so I often see ship models on display. My passion arose, and I was determined to learn how to make them,” Mr. De said.

Not stopping at creating the model, Mr. De also learned more about the operating principles of the controller, the wave receiving system and speed control technology. He actively researched on social networks and tested many types of materials to improve the quality of the model.

By 2020, after many tests, Mr. De completed the model of the first warship made of composite that could run on water.

“Each ship has to go through 7 stages, from mold making, mold assembly, hull shaping to processing details according to the design of the real ship. I use composite and pima plastic to ensure durability, each product can be used for more than 7 years,” Mr. De said, adding that the biggest challenge is having to research and test materials and components many times to ensure the product is both durable and operates stably.

Ship models not only attract domestic players but are also ordered by foreign customers.

Up to now, Mr. De has built more than 40 remote-controlled ship models of various sizes and types, including aircraft carriers, warships, Titanic, cruisers, patrol boats... These models are designed at a scale of 1/100 compared to real ships, some aircraft carriers are up to more than 3m long, and can move stably on the water surface.

The time to complete each model ranges from 45 days or more, depending on the complexity of the design. Some warships can also be remotely controlled, simulating the movements of real ships.

The aircraft model to be assembled on the aircraft carrier is also meticulously crafted in every detail like the real thing.

It is the meticulousness in every detail that has helped Mr. De's products receive great attention from model collectors. Currently, each ship model costs from several million to tens of millions of VND. His customers are not only in Vietnam but also come from many countries around the world .

Not stopping at existing products, Mr. De revealed that he is planning to launch many new and more unique warship models in the near future.
