The 1.7km long route with a total investment of more than 137 billion VND has officially opened to traffic after 5 years of construction, making many people excited.

On the afternoon of December 31, the Can Tho City Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) announced that the belt road connecting Can Tho International Airport with Le Hong Phong Street, Binh Thuy District, was officially opened to traffic.

The 1.7km long route with a total investment of more than 137 billion VND has officially opened to traffic after 5 years of construction.

The starting point of this route has a total length of 1.7km, starting from Vo Van Kiet Street and ending at the intersection with Le Hong Phong Street, Tra An Ward, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City, with a total investment of more than 137 billion VND.

Construction of the project started in 2019 and was expected to be completed in 2020. However, the construction process encountered many difficulties and obstacles, especially the site clearance stage due to the acquisition of more than 52,000 square meters of defense land, so it took longer than expected.

The investor removed the barriers at both ends of the road to allow vehicles to circulate safely.

Since the beginning of 2024, the project has been basically completed but has not been accepted by the authorities, so the investor has had to barricade both ends of the road, only arranging a small path just enough for cars to pass through, so that people in the area can temporarily circulate in one direction.

By this afternoon, the investor had mobilized cranes to dismantle the concrete sections and barriers at both ends of the road to allow vehicles to pass.

Present at the new route, many people cycling for exercise could not hide their excitement at being able to travel comfortably and safely on the new road.

Many people who regularly cycle for exercise along this road section are excited when it is officially opened to traffic.

"I often cycle this route with my friends every morning and evening. Before, there was a corrugated iron fence blocking the view every time we passed, so we were not very secure. Now that the road is clear, we cyclists are very happy," said Mr. Vo Van Hung in Binh Thuy district.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan, residing in Long Hoa ward, Binh Thuy district, said that he often goes on business trips to An Giang and often passes this route by car. Mr. Nhan said: "Although the beginning of the road is blocked by a fence, I still choose to use it because this road shortens travel time before it is officially opened to traffic. Now the road is beautiful, clear, safe to travel, and shortens the time for vehicles to connect to Can Tho international airport."
