According to SMCP , speaking to university students and scholars participating in the International University Programming Contest sponsored by Huawei and held last month, Mr. Ren said he opposes "xenophobia" towards any foreign brands and regards Apple as a valuable teacher.
Mr. Ren Zhengfei sees Apple as "a teacher"
Mr. Ren shared that Huawei often explores why Apple products are so good and the gap between the company and Apple, adding that "it would not be an exaggeration to call me an Apple fan." In fact, Mr. Ren expressed his admiration for Apple in an interview in May 2019, describing Apple as "an example we follow in terms of privacy protection."
According to Mr. Nham, his youngest daughter, Annabel Yao - a student at Harvard University from 2016 to 2020 - used Apple products while she was studying in the US.
Mr. Ren’s latest comments reflect his focus on Huawei’s continued technological leadership in specific areas and its focus on developing in-house talent. It comes shortly after Huawei launched its Mate 60 Pro and Mate 60 Pro+ 5G smartphones, which are powered by the Kirin 9000s chip. All are made in China and have become symbols of the company’s defiance of U.S. sanctions.
With the growing popularity of its new Mate 60 Pro devices, Huawei saw an opportunity to revive its handset business in the world's largest smartphone market despite fierce competition from Apple's newly launched iPhone 15 series. In the second quarter of 2023, Huawei returned to the top 5 smartphone vendors in China.
