Over the years, patriotic emulation movements have become an important driving force to promote socio-economic development, building a rich and civilized homeland. Notable among them are the movements "The whole country joins hands to build new rural areas" and "For the poor - leaving no one behind". From advanced models, simple examples but full of aspirations to contribute, the emulation movement has been spreading the spirit of solidarity and community responsibility, contributing to realizing the aspiration to develop the country in the new era.

Lesson 3: For the poor - leaving no one behind

“Leaving no one behind” is no longer a slogan but is materialized through programs and emulation movements for the poor. Many families have risen out of poverty thanks to support for livelihoods, house building, loans for production and business. Many cases have found opportunities for change thanks to timely support from all levels, sectors and the community.

Where there is poverty, there is love

In the journey of building and developing the country, our Party and State always put people at the center of all policies, paying special attention to caring for people's lives, ensuring social security, and creating conditions for all people to have the opportunity to rise up.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh once affirmed: “People are the central subject, the goal, and the most important resource for the country’s development. We do not sacrifice fairness, progress, social security, and the environment to pursue mere growth and are determined not to leave anyone behind in the country’s development process.”

People received gifts on the occasion of the handover ceremony of the Great Unity house in the old Tan Hung district.

In order to arouse the spirit of solidarity, sharing and urging the people to overcome difficulties and challenges, the Government launched many patriotic emulation movements. Among these practical movements, the movement "For the poor - Leaving no one behind" became a special mark, converging the love, responsibility and will to rise of the whole community. This is a concrete action in the sustainable poverty reduction and also a symbol of compassion, expressing the aspiration to build a fair and civilized society.

Implementing the policies of the Party and the State, with the strong participation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, organizations, business community and the masses, the movement has truly entered life with many creative ways, effective models and practical solutions. Wherever there are difficulties, there is sharing and helping; wherever there are poor people, there is love and care.

With consensus, determination and joint efforts, the poverty reduction work of the whole country has achieved outstanding results. According to the report of the Central Emulation and Reward Council, by the end of 2024, the multidimensional poverty rate was only 4.06%, equivalent to nearly 1.26 million households; of which, poor households accounted for 1.93% (more than 599,000 households), near-poor households accounted for 2.13% (more than 659,000 households). All important targets were achieved and exceeded the plan: poor households decreased by 1-1.5%/year, poor ethnic minority households decreased by over 3%/year; 35% of poor districts, 50% of particularly disadvantaged communes in coastal and island areas escaped poverty and extreme poverty.

"Sweet fruit" of will and sharing

The results of the movement have created a clear change, helping many families escape poverty, stabilize their lives and open up opportunities for sustainable development for the community. Many families have found opportunities for change thanks to the timely support of all levels, sectors and the cooperation of the community.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Mong Dao's family (living in Binh Hoa hamlet, Tan Tru commune, Tay Ninh province) has no land and has been near-poor for many years. The worry about making ends meet falls on the shoulders of the couple in their 50s. However, instead of giving up, Mrs. Dao and her husband worked hard, saving every penny to build a life.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Ha (residing in Khanh Hau ward) received support to build a Great Unity house from the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses"

“There were times when I thought I couldn’t get up, but I thought I still had the strength to keep going. If you are poor but still content with your lot, poverty will stick with you forever,” Ms. Dao confided.

On the journey to escape poverty, support from policy credit programs became a "pedestal" for Ms. Dao's family. Thanks to accessing loans of more than 90 million VND from many different sources such as clean water and environmental sanitation, livestock, and students, Ms. Dao opened a small grocery store and maintained her job selling fried banana cakes. Although the work was hard, it was steady, helping the family have "money coming in and out" to spend on living expenses and gradually pay off debts.

Looking at Mrs. Dao's gentle smile when she talked about the joy of being recognized as having escaped poverty, we clearly felt the relief and pride. "After decades of struggling, now that we have escaped poverty, my husband and I are very happy! Now we just hope that our business will become more and more stable so that we can take better care of our children" - Mrs. Dao said excitedly.

In early May 2025, the small house of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Le Ha (residing in Khanh Hau ward) was filled with laughter. Neighbors stopped by to join in the fun, and local authorities were also present to complete the handover procedures for the newly built Great Unity house. In the midst of that scene, the woman with a haggard face could not hide her emotions.

Many years ago, Mrs. Ha lived in a makeshift, dilapidated house. The thatched walls were rotten, the corrugated iron roof was punctured here and there. Every time it rained, she hurriedly placed a basin to catch the water. At night, she just hoped the rain would stop so she could sleep peacefully. Being a near-poor family with an unstable income, she did not dare to dream of building a solid house for herself.

Since the local authorities considered supporting the construction of a Great Unity house from the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses", her life has changed a lot. Looking at the solidly built house, Mrs. Ha tearfully said: "I never dared to think that I would have a house like this. Now I feel secure, have a secure place to live, I will try to work hard to make my life more stable". The new house gives Mrs. Ha more confidence and motivation to strive to rise up and look towards a brighter future.

The story of the families of Ms. Nguyen Thi Mong Dao and Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Ha not only depicts the journey of overcoming difficulties but also shows the effectiveness of practical support policies of the State. When preferential capital and support policies reach the right address along with the diligence and determination of the people, the path to sustainable poverty reduction will be increasingly expanded./.
