Quickly fix the landslide problem on the right bank of the Am River

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Due to the impact of floods, especially floods caused by the circulation of storm No. 3 in 2024, in Thuong Xuan commune, heavy rain occurred, the water level of Am river rose, the current was strong, causing erosion of river banks with a total landslide length of more than 1,100m. Typically, in Hung Long village, the deepest landslide was about 50m, the landslide length was about 650m. The incident threatened to endanger the lives and property of 77 households with 346 people, 2.4km of residential roads, 35kV power lines, siphon canals, 3 valve houses of the Nam Song Chu - Bac Song Ma canal system, 30ha of agricultural land and 2 cemeteries in the area.

Construction unit urgently handles landslide incident on the right bank of Am River, Thuong Xuan commune.

The landslide situation in this area is complicated and unpredictable, especially when there is rain and flood. On October 1, 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 3923/QD-UBND announcing an emergency situation of landslide on the right bank of Am River, Ngoc Phung Commune, Thuong Xuan District, Thanh Hoa Province. With the provincial budget, the project to urgently handle landslide on the right bank of Am River in Hung Long village was implemented in March 2025 with the main items including the construction of a protective embankment on the right bank of Am River with a total length of 1,330.36m and a construction and operation management road of more than 3,000m.

To meet the requirements of flood prevention and control in 2025, the Thuong Xuan Area Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) has directed the contractor to overcome difficulties, proactively deploy solutions to speed up progress, and ensure project quality. Mr. Trinh Van Hiep, a technical officer of Tan Thanh Construction and Trading Company Limited, shared: “With a large amount of work, basically completing a number of items to ensure flood and storm prevention in 2025, the company has deployed a number of appropriate solutions, mobilized resources to the construction site to organize the simultaneous construction of underground works on the eroded riverbank and cast concrete components in advance, so the progress and technique are guaranteed. Some main items such as: Casting paving components, constructing stone base of the embankment, dropping dragons of the embankment, constructing embankment base beams of section 3 have been basically completed, meeting the requirements for flood and storm prevention. Currently, the company is urgently constructing items such as digging embankment slopes with stable slope coefficients, completing stone base of the embankment on all sections to serve flood and storm prevention.

Deputy Head of the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects in Thuong Xuan area, Do Van Bang, said: The project to urgently handle the landslide on the right bank of Am river in Hung Long village, Thuong Xuan commune plays an important role in the work of preventing and fighting natural disasters, ensuring the safety and lives of the people. The Project Management Board has coordinated with the locality to mobilize the people's support and promptly clear the site for the contractor to carry out the construction. With the timely attention of the province in allocating capital, the contractor has urgently handled the landslide on the right bank of Am river. The people in the commune have voluntarily donated land, works, and trees on the land to serve the site clearance for the construction project, thus creating favorable conditions for the units to carry out their tasks.

The Board has coordinated with the consulting unit to send officers and engineers to the construction site to direct and supervise the technical and quality of the construction items. Directed the contractor to mobilize human and material resources and proactively overcome difficulties such as the scarcity of some construction materials, high prices, weak ground due to heavy rain in the landslide treatment area... to speed up the construction progress. By the end of July 2025, the construction volume reached 55% of the total work volume under the contract. According to the plan, by March 2026, the construction unit will complete the landslide treatment project on the right bank of the Am River and put it into use.
