Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba's cabinet officially resigns

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and his cabinet officially resigned on the morning of October 21.

According to Xinhua News Agency, at an extraordinary cabinet meeting held just before 9 a.m. on October 21 (local time), the ministers submitted their resignations and Mr. Ishiba's cabinet officially resigned.

This afternoon, the two houses of Parliament will meet to elect Japan's next Prime Minister.

Sanae Takaichi, president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), is expected to win the vote with the support of the Japan Innovation Party, which formed a coalition with the LDP.

After the Prime Minister election, Ms. Takaichi is expected to complete the cabinet appointment and the Chief Cabinet Secretary is expected to announce the list.

Japan's new Prime Minister is expected to hold a press conference after taking office to explain her policy direction and the reasons behind her key cabinet choices.

Previously, on October 4, Ms. Sanae Takaichi, former Minister of Economic Security, was elected as President of the ruling LDP Party and will almost certainly become Japan's first female Prime Minister.
