Ha Tinh farmers "race" to speed up spring rice planting

Localities in Ha Tinh are focusing on urging farmers to speed up spring rice production to ensure the crop schedule.

Can Loc is the leading locality in the progress of spring rice production in Ha Tinh up to this point. With an area of ​​9,167 hectares of rice, the district has completed planting 7,854 hectares, reaching a rate of 85.7%.

This year, Can Loc district continues to focus on land accumulation associated with the development of OCOP, organic and commodity products with more than 5,900 hectares of concentrated rice production. The locality has structured varieties such as: Nep 98, Ha Phat 3, Bac Thinh, Nhi Uu 838, Thai Xuyen 111, HT1.... To limit risks in production, the district has directed communes and towns to structure 1 variety over 30% of the sowing and planting area and to diversify the types of varieties based on growth time, adaptability, resistance, especially to rice blast disease.

Cam Xuyen district has the largest rice production area in the province in the 2024 spring crop with 9,560.1 hectares. This crop, the locality expanded the rice production area in the organic direction using transplanting and tray-seeding technology linked in chains with enterprises in the communes of Cam Binh, Yen Hoa, Nam Phuc Thang, Cam Quang, Cam Thanh, and Cam Xuyen town with a total area of ​​85 hectares. With this linkage model, people are provided with production inputs and output products by enterprises.

Participating in production cooperation in Cam Xuyen, Hoa Lac IEC Joint Stock Company (Thach Ha) organized concentrated seedling planting in Yen Hoa commune (Cam Xuyen) in the spirit of unifying the ST25 variety. This is a rice variety with the ability to withstand salinity, resist level 2 blast and leaf blight, and produce good quality rice.

When the seedlings meet the standards, Hoa Lac IEC Joint Stock Company transports them to the fields and mobilizes transplanters to help Cam Xuyen farmers free up labor, reduce costs, increase production efficiency, and create high-quality organic rice products to serve the market.

As a large-scale producer, Mr. Tran Huu Toan (Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune) shared: “ With an area of ​​16 sao, my family used to spend a whole week to plant seeds, but now the crop season has become easier. The enterprise not only supplies seeds and transplanting services but also allows farmers to pay late and buy products at the end of the season. This is the motivation for people to stick to the fields, expand the area of ​​organic rice, and increase the value of agricultural production ."

This spring crop, Thach Ha district focused on producing 7,970 hectares of rice, and has completed 3,058 hectares so far, reaching nearly 38% of the area. This crop, the locality continues to synchronize all stages to reduce seasonal pressure from production to harvest.

To expand the area of ​​new, high-quality rice varieties such as Bac Thinh, Ha Phat 3, BT09, Hana No. 7..., Thach Ha district has supported the cost of purchasing seeds, creating motivation for farmers to stick with the fields and increase production efficiency.

At this time, farmers in Ha Tinh city are also "racing" against time to quickly close the production area of ​​1,368 hectares of spring rice according to the crop calendar.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan (70 years old), residing in Nam Phu village, Thach Trung commune (Ha Tinh city) shared: " This crop, my family sowed Bac Thinh rice seedlings, expected to finish planting before Tet. Going to the field to plant seedlings at a time when cold air was approaching, so we had to carefully cover and tie plastic bags to avoid damage caused by severe cold ."

Based on the growth time of each variety, from January 10, 2024 to February 8, 2024, farmers in localities in Ha Tinh simultaneously went to the fields to quickly close more than 59,107 hectares of spring rice. This year, the whole province strives to achieve spring rice output of 342,000 tons, with an expected yield of over 57.92 quintals/ha.

After sowing, farmers focus on measures to protect the rice from damage by rats. All stages are carefully prepared by farmers, carrying with them the faith and hope for a bountiful and successful crop.

According to Mr. Phan Van Huan - Head of the Cultivation Department (Ha Tinh Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection), the whole province has completed the production of 25,416 hectares of spring rice, accounting for 43% of the total area; of which, the direct sowing area is 24,595 hectares and the transplanting area is 821 hectares. Localities need to continue to direct farmers to cover 100% of the area with plastic covers according to technical procedures to prevent cold; encourage planting young seedlings (3 leaves), apply the method of scooping seedlings, and use transplanters in areas that have completed land conversion. For direct sowing areas, farmers should be encouraged to sow 5-10% more seedlings in the corner of the field covered with plastic for patching and prepare short-term rice seeds to prevent severe cold, damaging cold or local flooding that can kill rice...
