Farmers in Cau Den village have to wake up to harvest lychee from dawn.

Explaining why she had to wake up at midnight to harvest lychees, Ms. Ha Thi Loan, a resident of Cau Den, said: "During lychee season, we have to sleep from 9 to 10 pm the night before, then wake up at 2 am to pick lychees and sell them. Traders buy lychees early, by 6 to 7 am they have almost enough goods. If we bring them in late, the price will decrease."

According to garden owners, this year's weather is hot and dry, with drought in many places, but it has not affected the lychee. Most gardeners have had a good crop with consistent quality. The most beautiful lychees are bundled into bunches of about 3 - 4 kg and then put into baskets of 200 - 300 kg, then transported to large purchasing points such as Chu Town, Kim Town...

On average, a gardener in Cau Den village harvests 3-4 quintals of lychee per day, and several tons of lychee per crop. Lychee season in Luc Ngan starts at the end of May and lasts for more than a month.

Mr. Hao, one of the residents of Cau Den village, has more than 4 hectares of lychee, and is one of the largest gardeners in the area. These days, in addition to his family, he has to hire 3 more workers to harvest. On the night we took these photos, his family picked 900 kg of lychee. To harvest such a large amount of lychee, the hired workers also have to get up from dawn to join the homeowner in picking fruit, stripping leaves, cutting stems... and receive a salary of up to 1 million VND per day.
