WB supports flood resilience and improved connectivity in the Central region

(Chinhphu.vn) - The World Bank (WB) has just approved a project to improve flood protection and transport connectivity in Da Nang City and Gia Lai Province. The investment will provide more than 1.2 million people with better flood protection, safer evacuation routes, and more stable access to markets and services.

The project focuses on ensuring community safety, promoting economic connectivity and strengthening provincial capacity in infrastructure management.

Sherman, World Bank Country Director for Vietnam, Cambodia, and Lao PDR.

In Da Nang city, the project will dredge river flows and build flood channels to reduce flooding in densely populated districts, while protecting essential services such as schools and hospitals.

In Gia Lai province, the project will elevate and reinforce key roads and bridges to maintain year-round connectivity from the Central Highlands to Quy Nhon Port — an important export gateway for agricultural and industrial goods.

The nearly $145 million loan provided by the World Bank will support the Integrated Resilience Development Project, in line with Vietnam's national strategies on disaster risk management and sustainable infrastructure development.
