(QBĐT) - Now, many ethnic minority households in Le Thuy district no longer have to go far to get water for daily activities. People have enjoyed the joy of clean water reaching their villages and homes, not only meeting their basic needs but also contributing to improving their quality of life...
People benefit
For generations, Mr. Ho Van Tinh's family in Khe Sung village, Ngan Thuy commune has had to walk nearly 1km every day to the stream in front of their house to bathe and get water for their family's daily needs.
“The ethnic minorities here are used to this way of life. Everything related to family life depends on the stream water source. But the hardest part is that in the summer there is a water shortage, people have to go to each stream to find water. Then in the rainy season, the water turns murky and red, people and livestock also have to rely on that water source to use…”, Ho Van Tinh shared.
Khe Sung village chief Ho Van Son said that not only Mr. Ho Van Tinh's family, but also 41 households with about 130 people in Khe Sung village all share the same habit that is difficult to break for decades. Therefore, the quality of life of people in Khe Sung village has not been improved, people often suffer from digestive diseases due to using unsanitary water sources...
“Thanks to the State's investment, in early 2024, a centralized water system for Khe Sung villagers was built with a total cost of about 1.2 billion VND. By the end of the year, the project was completed, and Khe Sung villagers were very happy because they had clean water to use right at home,” informed Khe Sung Village Chief.
Turning on the clean water tap right at the foot of the stilt house to prepare to wash clothes, Ms. Ho Giang, Ho Rum village in Kim Thuy commune happily confided: “For each household in the village, especially the women who stay at home all year round to do farming and cooking, having access to clean water is probably the happiest thing. From the past until now, the source of water for my family and everyone in the village has depended on the stream water. In years with little rain, we have to go more than 2km to the source to carry each can of water for use. Lack of water makes life and daily activities of the family very difficult. Now there is a source of clean water that has been brought to our house, the water flows very strongly, everyone in the village is excited…”.
According to Ho Rum Village Party Secretary Ho Van Vang, the entire village has 111 households, most of whom are Bru-Van Kieu ethnic minorities, and their lives still face many difficulties. Previously, not only in the summer, people in the village had to save water for bathing and washing, and sometimes even drinking water was scarce. The village used to have a clean water project, but after a long time of use, it was damaged. With the attention of the State, Ho Rum villagers were supported with a centralized domestic water project worth 1.4 billion VND. Now that there is clean water right in the village, people do not have to worry about getting water for daily use like before...

“The ethnic minorities living in the localities mainly work on swidden fields and partly on wet rice fields. However, the educational level of the people is still low, so the life of ethnic minorities faces many difficulties. Production is mainly agricultural but not yet developed. In recent years, although the Party and the State have paid attention to investing in essential infrastructure, it is still not synchronous; the socio -economic development is slow, the rate of poor and near-poor households is high compared to the general level of the whole district…”, Vo Minh Hai said.
“The centralized water supply works for ethnic minority people in the Central Highlands have been put into operation, contributing to maintaining the rate of households using hygienic water in Le Thuy district. Clean water in the village not only quenches the thirst of ethnic minority people in the highlands but also improves the quality of life in ethnic minority and mountainous areas…”, Nguyen Thanh Duc, member of the Standing Committee of the Le Thuy District Party Committee in charge of the grassroots, affirmed. |
From 2019 to now, Party committees and authorities at all levels in Le Thuy district have mobilized resources to invest in and build essential infrastructure works to serve socio-economic development, focusing on rural traffic systems, irrigation canals, bridges, cultural houses, and schools with a capital of more than 171 billion VND; at the same time, deploying the construction and completion of concentrated domestic water works in Moi, Xa Khia, Tang Ky (Lam Thuy); Trung Doan, Ho Rum (Kim Thuy); Khe Sung, Khe Giua (Ngan Thuy), contributing to ensuring domestic water for a part of the people...
Chairman of the People's Committee of Ngan Thuy Commune, Ho Van Nui, assessed that the concentrated domestic water projects implemented in the locality under the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in the Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Regions for the 2021-2025 period not only address the essential needs of the people but also contribute to improving the quality of life and strengthening the trust of the people in the Party Committees and authorities at all levels...
“The investment in building water works for people in the Delta is considered to be done correctly and effectively. However, the quality of water sources is still not guaranteed, many water lines that have been put into operation are starting to have problems. To further promote the effectiveness of the works, first of all, it is necessary to quickly establish self-management teams to serve the operation, maintenance, repair when problems occur. On the other hand, it is necessary to strengthen propaganda work for people to manage and protect the works…”, Mr. Ho Van Nui said.
