Nasopharyngeal cancer detected after 4 weeks of headache

Taking a medical history, Ms. H. said that her health had always been stable, without any serious illness, but recently she suddenly had a lot of headaches. The pain was dull from the top of her head down to the back of her forehead, and later the pain became more severe, accompanied by dizziness, lasting about 4 weeks. She was examined and treated as an inpatient at a medical facility for about 7 days, but the symptoms did not improve and showed signs of getting worse. She decided to go to Xuyen A Long An General Hospital for examination.

On August 10, specialist doctor Vo Ba Thach, Xuyen A Long An Hospital, said that through a comprehensive examination and nasal endoscopy, patient H. was found to have a tumor in the left Rossemuler fossa, suspected of nasopharyngeal cancer. MRI results showed an abnormal tumor in the left nasopharyngeal mucosa and left sphenoid sinus. The patient was biopsied for pathological anatomy to confirm the diagnosis.

Pathology results showed that the patient had nasopharyngeal cancer.

After 5 days of intensive treatment, Ms. H.'s clinical condition stabilized, the symptoms of headache and dizziness had stopped, and she was able to resume normal activities as before. However, the pathological results were not as expected. She was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer.

The sudden news of her cancer diagnosis, after only a few weeks of headaches, left Ms. H. and her family devastated. The team of doctors encouraged her, explained her condition, and gave her the next direction for treatment.

"When experiencing symptoms such as persistent headaches, nasal congestion, tinnitus, nosebleeds or unusual neck lymph nodes, people should not be subjective and should see a doctor to promptly detect any disease. At the same time, every 6 months, an ENT endoscopy should be performed to detect any diseases early, thereby making the treatment process more favorable," Dr. Vo Ba Thach recommended.
