On the afternoon of June 3, Comrade Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member, Prime Minister, Head of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control chaired the 20th meeting of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control. The meeting was held online with provinces and cities. Attending the meeting were Deputy Heads of the Steering Committee, Deputy Prime Ministers, and leaders of central ministries and branches.

At Thai Binh bridge, comrade Nguyen Khac Than, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control attended the meeting. Also attending were comrades of the Provincial Party Standing Committee; leaders of the Provincial People's Committee; members of the steering committee and representatives of departments, branches, localities and units.
From the beginning of 2023 to June 2, the whole country recorded more than 89,000 Covid-19 cases. On average, more than 17,000 cases were recorded per month, down from 2021 and 2022. In addition, the number of severe cases and deaths also decreased. From May 23 to 29, the number of severe cases decreased by 27.4% compared to the previous week. As of June 2, the whole country had administered more than 266.4 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine. Vietnam has completed the first, second, third, and fourth doses of vaccination for target groups at a high rate. Although the WHO has now announced that the Covid-19 epidemic is no longer an emergency, causing global concern, the pandemic is not over yet. WHO recommends that countries shift from emergency response to sustainable management, integrating with other threats and long-term.

After listening to reports from ministries, branches and localities and contributing ideas to control the epidemic sustainably in the coming time, in his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister, Head of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, acknowledged and commended the achieved results, while pointing out a number of shortcomings and limitations in Covid-19 prevention and control work.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his deep condolences and sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in the Covid-19 pandemic; expressed his gratitude for the contributions, despite the difficulties and hardships of the people and forces; and the attention and support of the international community during the long period of preventing and fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
Regarding the transfer of Covid-19 from group A infectious disease to group B, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Health to issue a decision according to its authority and legal regulations; at the same time, continue to study WHO recommendations to develop a disease prevention and control plan suitable to reality; have a plan to summarize, evaluate, and review lessons learned in Covid-19 prevention and control. Implement vaccination against diseases in accordance with reality.
The Prime Minister called on the entire nation to continue joining hands to overcome the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. Ministries, branches and localities need to promptly commend and reward those with achievements in epidemic prevention and control and handle individuals who take advantage of the situation. In addition, ministries, branches and localities need to proactively develop plans and strategies to respond to other possible epidemics and the resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic. Implement social security work well and promptly resolve policies for those participating in epidemic prevention and control.
