Introducing the National Treasure Avalokitesvara of Bac Binh to the public

VHO - The Avalokitesvara Statue of Bac Binh - a national treasure, a typical artifact representing the transformational development process from the 7th - 8th century plastic art style to the peak development stage of Champa cultural plastic art has just been announced and introduced to the public.

Announcing the Prime Minister 's Decision to recognize the Avalokitesvara statue of Bac Binh as a national treasure

On the morning of September 14, at the Provincial Museum, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee held an announcement ceremony of the Prime Minister's Decision to recognize the Avalokitesvara Bac Binh statue as a national treasure.

Accordingly, the Avalokitesvara statue of Bac Binh (dating from the 8th to 9th century) was accidentally discovered by local people while farming in Thanh Kiet village, Hong Thai commune, Lam Dong province (Phan Thanh commune, Bac Binh district, Binh Thuan province before) in 1945 along with 4 other stone statues. In 1996, the Avalokitesvara statue was buried in the garden of the house.

In 2001, people in Hong Chinh village, Hong Thai commune, Lam Dong province (Hoa Thang commune, Bac Binh district, Binh Thuan province before) discovered this statue while digging the foundation to build a gate pillar and handed it over to the local museum.

The Avalokitesvara statue of Bac Binh is crafted from dark gray fine-grained sandstone, 61cm high, 13kg in weight.

The artifact was broken off below the ankle, and a large part of the right arm. However, the remaining part still fully reflects the basic characteristics.

The Avalokitesvara Statue of Bac Binh is a precious and rare historical document, not only a product reflecting the process of cultural exchange but also reflecting the cultural and historical achievements of the Cham Pa residents in the process of continuous labor and creation.

This is a typical artifact representing the transformational development process from the 7th - 8th century plastic art style to the peak development stage of Cham Pa cultural plastic art, the Tra Kieu art style (9th century).

This is a rare document for the process of studying and researching the history and culture of Champa.

The Avalokitesvara Statue of Bac Binh is considered an important document for the process of researching and assessing the history of formation and development of the South Central region in particular, the historical and cultural appearance of Champa in general, contributing to clarifying the process of Vietnamese cultural history.
