Audience confused when Thai VG does not speak Vietnamese well

Recently, the producer of Rap Viet season 3 released the trailer for episode 1, before the official air date on May 27.

In the trailer, the appearance of Thai VG - the coach who just returned from the US attracted a lot of attention.

Accordingly, the male rapper speaks Vietnamese but is not fluent, so he occasionally adds English words to explain his ideas. Sitting in the "hot seat" for the first time, Thai VG clearly looked confused.

Tran Thanh even gave the rapper the privilege to raise his hand if he didn't understand what others were saying so that the MC could translate it into English. When asked if he understood everything the other coaches and judges shared, Thai VG said he understood but asked everyone to speak more slowly.

During the contest between Thai VG and Andree, Andree even mentioned Thai VG's weakness of not being fluent in Vietnamese to show the judges that the contestant should be on their team: "The important thing is that she doesn't understand what Thai is saying and Thai isn't understanding what she is saying, so what's the point of going together?".

In response, Thai VG told the contestant: "Don't worry, my team is here to help."

Thai VG's language barrier made many viewers worried. "When the contestant raps like the wind, how can Thai understand? I'm so worried?", "His name is Thai VG but he doesn't understand Vietnamese, how can he judge the contest?"... are some of the viewers' comments.

Rap Viet season 3 has new rules

Before the broadcast, the organizers also announced that this year's program will change the rules. Accordingly, the final 5 mystery numbers just announced are 50% of the votes from the audience present at the studio in Round 1.

Rap Viet season 3 will officially air at 8pm every Saturday from May 27

The rules of the conquest round of Rap Viet season 3 (2023) are as follows: Contestants will compose new rap lyrics based on a song or a Vietnamese entertainment or literary work. The coaches will decide to choose contestants for their team by stepping on the gas pedal.

If a contestant has 2 or more choices, the decision of which team the contestant will be on will be up to the 3 judges. Most importantly, each coach will have a yellow hat in hand, the coaches can use their yellow hat to win the contestant to their team and override the decision of the 3 judges.

If two or more yellow hats are thrown, the choice of coach will be up to the contestant. A yellow hat will be invalid when it is used successfully.

The new thing appearing in the conquest round of Rap Viet Season 3 this year is that all the audience present at the studio will have the right to participate in voting and evaluating the quality of the contestants' performances. The coach's selections will only be recognized when the contestant has more than 50% of the audience's votes.

Participating in the program, excellent candidates selected from all over Vietnam will compete in 4 rounds to find the winner including: conquest round, confrontation round, breakthrough round and final round.
