VnExpressVnExpress27/10/2023

Ho Chi Minh City will hold an international competition to find planning and architectural ideas for the nearly 427-hectare Binh Quoi - Thanh Da peninsula to find the most optimal development plan.

According to the report of the Department of Planning and Architecture just sent to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the scope of planning research is the entire Binh Quoi - Thanh Da peninsula, nearly 427 hectares wide in Ward 28, Binh Thanh District, along with some areas opposite the Saigon River, especially Truong Tho Urban Area, Thu Duc City and Binh Thanh District.

The general requirement set by the city is that this peninsula will become a sustainable, modern ecological urban area, contributing to promoting economic and social development.

5 units with the capacity and conditions to pass the preliminary round will participate in the competition round. In this round, the units will be provided with a topic and will have 4-6 weeks to carry out the design concept for judging. When the results are available, the city will select important contents to include in the project to adjust the general planning of Ho Chi Minh City.

About 6.5 km from the center of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Quoi - Thanh Da peninsula is surrounded by Saigon River and Thanh Da canal. The only road access to this place is currently Kinh Thanh Da bridge, on Binh Quoi - Xo Viet Nghe Tinh road.

According to the Department of Planning and Architecture, this peninsula is currently the only place with a lot of vacant land with the potential to invest and develop urban areas within a 10 km radius, compared to the existing central area.

The Binh Quoi - Thanh Da new urban area was approved and called for investment by Ho Chi Minh City in 1992. However, due to its large scale, high total investment capital (VND30,000 billion), and complicated site clearance, the project has not been implemented after many changes of investors. The delay has affected the lives of thousands of households in the planning area for many years.
