Established on September 2, 1965, Division 9 participated in thousands of large and small battles; typically: Bau Bang Battle (1965), Nguyen Hue Campaign (1972), Road 7-West Ben Cat counter-offensive campaign, Road 14-Phuoc Long offensive campaign (1974)... In the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, the Division was the main force in the 232nd Division formation, attacking in the Southwest direction to attack Saigon.

After the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, the 9th Division returned to the formation of the 4th Corps. During the period 1979-1987, the Division and other units firmly protected the southwestern border and fulfilled international duties in Cambodia.

About 24,000 martyrs and tens of thousands of officers and soldiers of Division 9 left a part of their bodies on the battlefield, contributing to the glory of the Division's "Determination to fight, determination to win" flag. With many outstanding achievements, Division 9 was honored by the Party and State with the title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces twice, and was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal and many other noble awards. The glorious tradition is a solid foundation for officers and soldiers of Division 9 to build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern unit.

Implementing the policy of building a lean, compact, and strong Army, Division 9 was assigned to the 34th Corps. The Division has focused on leading and directing the implementation of many synchronous solutions to promote the tradition of "Solidarity, modesty, bravery, creativity, going to win, fighting to finish" in the new conditions, aiming to improve overall quality and combat strength. The Division pays special attention to the work of building a politically strong unit, a decisive factor to improve overall quality and combat strength. The Division closely combines the implementation of the Emulation Movement to Win with promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and style, improving the quality of implementing the Campaign to Promote Tradition, Contribute Talent, and Be Worthy of the Title of "Uncle Ho's Soldiers" in the new period.

The Division regularly organizes political and ideological propaganda and education activities, rich in form and profound in content. Many models have been effectively implemented such as: "4 good Party Committees and Party Cells", "Military Psychological and Legal Counseling Team", "5 proactive", "3 practical", "One legal question a day", "1 study, 2 do, 3 love, 4 speak", "Building a 100 dong house"...; contributing to building a healthy cultural environment, a spirit of solidarity, democracy and responsibility throughout the unit.

In training, the Division has thoroughly grasped and strictly implemented resolutions, directives, orders and instructions from above; correctly implemented the motto, viewpoints and principles, focused on synchronous and in-depth training, training to master new and modern weapons and technical equipment; strengthened night training, mobile training, training according to tasks, situations, close to the target and combat area. Being a model and a model is also one of the effective measures of the unit to make a breakthrough in improving the quality of training, building discipline and managing discipline. At the same time, the Division has strengthened training and fostered to improve the training level of cadres at all levels, actively applied information technology and simulation technology to training. In the first months of 2025, the results of the Division's squad training were 100% satisfactory, more than 80% good and excellent, of which 40% were excellent; the unit was absolutely safe.

Located in the dynamic economic-political centers of the Southeast region, Division 9 regularly does a good job of propaganda and mobilizing people to contribute to building a strong national defense. The unit has closely coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to organize field trips to mobilize the masses, carry out many social security activities, support the construction of new rural areas, and foster strong military-civilian solidarity.

These days, officers and soldiers of Division 9 enthusiastically responded to the peak emulation campaign "Raising the August red flag - Emulating to win 3 first place"; emulation to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Division's traditional day (September 2, 1965 / September 2, 2025). The enthusiastic emulation spirit of officers and soldiers has strongly encouraged the sense of responsibility, will to rise up and aspiration to contribute. Competitions, sports festivals, traditional camps, art performances, forums, meetings, exchanges, political and historical education activities... were also deployed synchronously, creating a widespread spread in agencies, units and people in the stationed areas.

On this occasion, Division 9 was honored to receive the Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal from the Party and State. The officers and soldiers of Division 9 today are always proud of the heroic tradition built with the blood and bones of previous generations; confidently writing the golden pages of history, wishing to be worthy of the trust of the Party, State, Army and people.
