On the afternoon of September 21, a video recording the scene of a 29-seat vehicle carrying a group of foreign tourists suddenly facing a truck recklessly overtaking on a narrow road was widely shared on social networks.
The incident happened in just 30 seconds. Sensing danger, the driver of the passenger car braked suddenly. Luckily, both cars stopped in time, and no collision occurred.
Many viewers of the video said they were "heartbroken" by the sudden and dangerous situation. However, what impressed them the most was the driver's calm and decisive handling of the situation. "His face was almost unchanged, completely focused on handling the incident," commented one social media account.
Video recording "heart-stopping" situation
According to the investigation, the incident happened at 2:00 p.m. on September 21, on a road in Bac Quang district, Ha Giang (old). The driver appearing in the video is Mr. Nguyen Duc Bac (29 years old, from Bac Ninh).
At this time, Mr. Bac drove a group of Australian tourists from Hanoi to Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, and Lang Son for a 6-day, 5-night tour .
Mr. Bac said that when he saw the truck showing signs of encroaching on the opposite lane, the distance between the two vehicles was very close, only about 15-20 meters, Mr. Bac immediately reduced speed, braked from a distance and then braked suddenly when the truck approached. "Luckily, the two vehicles stopped in time when the front of my car was only about 1 meter from the truck," Mr. Bac said.
Mr. Bac shared that this was the first time he had encountered such a dangerous situation. However, thanks to many years of driving experience and training in mountain road driving skills, he remained calm.
"I am the driver so I have to be more steady. If I brake suddenly when I see a truck encroaching on my lane, my car could drift and lose control," he explained.
He also said that in case he couldn't brake in time, he was ready to swerve the car into the ditch on the side of the road, accepting damage to the vehicle to minimize the risk of a head-on collision.
When the bus stopped abruptly, some passengers were startled and cowered. However, when they saw that they had escaped danger, they all applauded the driver.
At this time, all foreign tourists on the bus were wearing seat belts so there was only a slight sway, no one fell or had any health problems.
"The tourists applauded, but actually, this is my responsibility. I have to ensure the safety of the group of tourists," said Mr. Bac.

Previously, Mr. Bac had spent several years driving on the Laos - Dien Bien route. For the past half year, he has been driving on the East - Northwest route. These routes have many steep passes and dangerous curves, so he always tries to obey the speed limit.
Mr. To Thanh Tung - director of the transport company where Mr. Bac works - said that when the journey monitoring unit reported the incident and sent the video, Mr. Tung was also "shocked".
"Mr. Bac observed, judged and handled the situation very well," said Mr. Tung.
According to Mr. Tung, the East - Northwest routes have many potential risks, the company always trains and reminds drivers to concentrate, maintain speed and keep a safe distance.
