Temporarily close Phong Chau pontoon bridge due to high and fast river water flow

Báo Giao thôngBáo Giao thông01/10/2024

Specifically, at around 6:00 p.m. this afternoon (October 1), authorities temporarily closed the road, not allowing vehicles to move due to the high and fast-flowing water level of the Red River.

"This afternoon, Phong Chau pontoon bridge was temporarily closed due to floodwaters from upstream, high water levels of the Red River, and high flow rates causing many trees and obstacles to float and get stuck on the bridge, putting pressure on the bridge. Therefore, Brigade 249 has temporarily cut the pontoon bridge. It is expected that tomorrow morning, if the water flow is stable, it will be reopened to serve the people."

Currently, vehicles must temporarily move across Ngoc Thap bridge ( Phu Tho town) to cross the river.

Previously, at 6am (September 30), Brigade 249 officially opened Phong Chau pontoon bridge. Immediately after the opening, hundreds of vehicles from both sides of Tam Nong and Lam Thao districts moved across the bridge.

Vehicles are allowed to move across the pontoon bridge from 6am to 10pm daily.

To ensure safety in bridge operation, Phu Tho Provincial Police have issued a notice that rudimentary vehicles, motorbikes, and three-wheeled motorcycles are allowed to travel in both directions, at a speed not exceeding 5km/h.

Only cars and pickup trucks are allowed to travel in one direction when crossing the bridge, each direction takes 10 minutes, the distance between vehicles on the bridge is not less than 30m, speed is not more than 10km/h.

Traffic on the bridge is expected to be open from 6am to 10pm daily. At the same time, the pontoon bridge operator will close the bridge to allow watercraft to pass from 10pm the previous day to 5am the following day.

Between 5am and 6am Brigade 249 will connect the bridge.
