Video of Jannik Sinner and Learner Tien's road to the China Open final:
The Vietnamese-born player started strongly, taking advantage of Medvedev's errors to break in the first games and take an early lead.
However, Medvedev's stability at the end of the first set and his ability to play sustainably from the back of the court helped him come back, winning 7-5 after Tien made a double fault at the decisive moment.

In the second set, Medvedev had an early advantage but his injury slowed him down. Tien took advantage of the opportunity, played with confidence and won 7-5 to equalize the score.
Set 3 saw Medvedev almost exhausted from cramps, even arguing with the referee after being warned for “lack of determination”. Tien did not miss the opportunity, winning 2 consecutive breaks to lead 4-0. After a losing game, Medvedev was forced to retire.
With this victory, Learner Tien has made it to the final of the ATP Tour for the first time. Tien was somewhat lucky as this was the second time in the tournament that he advanced thanks to an opponent's withdrawal, after Lorenzo Musetti in the previous round.

However, Tien still showed remarkable maturity and was ready to create a surprise against Jannik Sinner in the final match.
Learner Tien is a Vietnamese-American born in 2005 in California, USA, to parents of Vietnamese descent. His parents, Mr. Khuong Tien and Mrs. Huyen Tien, are Chinese-Vietnamese who came to the US 5 decades ago and want their children to always remember their Vietnamese roots.
