The circulation of storm No. 11 has caused heavy rains for many days, causing many areas in the center of Thai Nguyen province to be submerged in water. Streets turned into rivers, forcing hundreds of households to evacuate urgently to ensure safety.

On October 8, many central areas of Thai Nguyen province were still deeply flooded, seriously affecting production and people's lives.

Meals from the other side of the wall

In Phan Dinh Phung ward - the area that suffered the most damage, floodwaters overflowed the dike, causing widespread flooding.

At around 1am on October 8, the Cau River water level at Gia Bay hydrological station reached 29.9m, more than 1m higher than the historical flood peak in 2024. This is the highest water level recorded in many years. During the night, residential areas along the river fell into a state of alarm. People had to stay up all night to move their belongings, motorbikes and belongings to higher ground.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, a resident of Phan Dinh Phung ward, shared: "The water rose so quickly, in just a few hours it flooded into our house, we didn't have time to react."

On October 8, charity meals were carried by volunteer groups through many flooded streets, entering each residential area to hand out to nearly 90 students and teachers of the Thai Nguyen Center for Supporting the Development of Inclusive Education .

After more than a day of being isolated by floodwaters, living and learning conditions at the center became extremely difficult. The main gate was deeply flooded, and the volunteer group and teachers had to climb the wall with ladders to bring food to the children. In such special circumstances, hot meals were not only an essential source of nutrition but also contained the warmth of human love and sharing from the community.

Ms. Duong Thi Thuy - Deputy Director of the Center - shared: "The Center is deeply flooded, unable to cook properly, so the charity meals are truly a lifesaver, very practical for both staff, teachers and students."

At lane 295 Phan Dinh Phung street, rising water levels have completely isolated many residential areas. Locals and volunteer groups arrived early to provide food and drinking water to the people.

Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong, residing in Phan Dinh Phung ward, was one of the first people to join the relief team from the night of October 7.

He said: “My house is near the river so I discovered that the water level was rising abnormally fast. Some areas such as Tuc Duyen and Quang Vinh (old) are seriously lacking in necessities, and the water is flowing so fast that only motorboats can enter. Last night, we approached the group on duty at the provincial museum area. They had been on duty for nearly 10 hours without eating anything. When they received the supplies, everyone was excited. I feel that what I do is really worthwhile."

Racing with the flood to save people

Many rescue boats from neighboring provinces raced through the night with flood waters, regardless of danger, to bring people out of danger zones.

In the deep flooded area, many families are still isolated. The 4-year-old son of Mr. Nguyen Tuan Linh (Group 21, Phan Dinh Phung Ward) was stuck at home for more than a day, making his family extremely worried. When the rescue team approached and took him to safety by boat, Mr. Linh emotionally said: "Thank you very much to the volunteer teams. After receiving my son, my family felt like a burden had been lifted."

In addition to volunteer groups, the authorities have been mobilized to the maximum. Hundreds of police officers, soldiers, and militiamen worked through the night to help evacuate people and transport necessities to isolated areas. In deeply flooded areas such as Phan Dinh Phung, motorboats and temporary rafts were used to take people out of the danger zone.

In addition, the local health sector also organized on-duty staff to support the elderly and children and distribute necessary medicines to people in flood-affected areas.

On social networking sites, there are also continuous calls for support for the people of Thai Nguyen province.
