Thai Nguyen launches campaign to care for the health of the elderly

Responding to the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam in 2025, on the morning of September 29, at Bac Kan ward, the Department of Health of Thai Nguyen province coordinated with the People's Committee of Bac Kan ward and the People's Committee of Duc Xuan ward to organize the launching ceremony of the "Integrated communication campaign to provide health examination services and screening for some common diseases in the elderly in ethnic minority and mountainous areas".

Attending were representatives of leaders of a number of departments, branches, agencies, units and more than 150 elderly members.

According to a report from the Health sector, Thai Nguyen currently has over 259,000 elderly people (accounting for about 14.4% of the population), of which 70% live in rural areas.

Recently, Thai Nguyen province has issued plans and programs aimed at taking care of the health of the elderly, contributing to the successful implementation of the National Population Strategy.

To do a good job of caring for the elderly, the Department of Health coordinates with sectors, localities and units to promote propaganda of Party and State policies; invest in and upgrade the grassroots health care system for examination and treatment, provide guidance on chronic disease prevention and control, self-care skills, organize periodic check-ups and manage health records of the elderly.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, more than 150 elderly members were examined, screened, consulted and given free medicine by doctors and nurses of Bac Kan General Hospital and Bac Kan Medical Center. Youth union members and youths of Bac Kan and Duc Xuan wards organized a parade on the main roads, contributing to spreading the message and raising public awareness about the responsibility of taking care of the elderly's health.

The integrated communication campaign to provide health check-up services for the elderly not only brings practical benefits to people but also affirms the attention of all levels and sectors in implementing the goal of adapting to population aging, ensuring social security and sustainable development.
