Change your electricity usage habits

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - June is usually the peak of the hot season. This year, the Northern region has experienced three severe, long-lasting heat waves with temperatures reaching over 40°C at times. The extreme weather conditions not only greatly affect daily life but also cause the demand for electricity, especially household electricity, to increase dramatically, leading to a sharp increase in electricity bills for many households, causing public concern and raising many questions.

According to the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), in June 2025, commercial electricity output in 27 northern provinces and cities (excluding Hanoi ) reached 9.85 billion kWh - the highest level among distribution corporations under EVN. Notably, on June 2, electricity consumption set a record with 373.6 million kWh in one day.

Thanh Hoa province is no exception. According to Thanh Hoa Electricity Company, the record electricity consumption at 22:30 on June 2, 2025, the total electricity usage capacity of the province reached a peak of 1,597.5 MW; commercial electricity output in June was 866.179 million kWh, an increase of 15.1% over the same period and an increase of 11.46% compared to May 2025. Accumulated in the first 6 months was 4,200.9 million kWh, an increase of 11.26% over the same period.

Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Electricity Company Hoang Duc Hau recommended: "The company hopes to receive the companionship, sharing and understanding of customers in using electricity safely, economically and effectively, for the benefit of families and the country. As a customer whose electricity bill in June was higher than in May 2025, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa at house number 359, Trinh Tung street, Hac Thanh ward said: Thanks to the propaganda and guidance of the electricity industry, in the past time, especially during the hot summer, our family has always been aware of using electricity safely, economically and effectively. In June, our family's electricity bill was 1.5 million VND, the previous May it was 1.1 million VND. The main reason for the high electricity bill in June was due to the prolonged heat, children and grandchildren coming home for summer vacation with their grandparents, the family installed a new air conditioner, not to mention other electrical appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, stoves... which are used more and more continuously than usual. Our family finds this completely normal, consistent with the family's electricity needs.

To proactively control electricity bills and use electricity economically, reasonably and effectively during the hot season, Thanh Hoa Electricity Company recommends customers: Set the air conditioner at 26 - 28 degrees Celsius, combine using fans and close the doors to avoid heat loss; limit the simultaneous use of many high-capacity electrical devices between 13:00 - 15:00 and 20:00 - 23:00 on hot days; turn off devices when not in use, take advantage of natural light during the day, choose electrical devices with energy-saving labels, and perform annual maintenance to maintain operating efficiency. In the long term, the company encourages households and businesses with suitable conditions to consider installing self-generating and self-consuming rooftop solar power systems, contributing to reducing electricity purchase costs and ensuring environmental emissions...
