Nghe An Than Vu Tunnel is more than one kilometer long, with an investment capital of 1,350 billion VND, part of the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway project, and was opened on the afternoon of October 14.
According to Phuc Thanh Hung Investment Joint Stock Company, the two excavations from the north and south of the right tunnel, calculated in the North - South direction, have joined together with absolute precision. The tunnel opening is of great significance, after this point, the coordination of personnel, vehicles, and materials can go through the tunnel without having to move on the public road, contributing to speeding up the construction progress of Than Vu tunnel as well as the entire expressway project.
Than Vu Tunnel is 1.13 km long, passing through Than Vu Mountain, the north belongs to Dien Phu Commune, Dien Chau District, the south belongs to Nghi Dong Commune, Nghi Loc District. The tunnel is designed to be permanent, with a reinforced concrete shell, with two separate tunnels, each 13.78 m wide, and the distance between the two tunnel centers is 45 m. The right tunnel will serve the first phase of the project, the left tunnel is for the expressway expansion in phase 2.
This is one of the most difficult and complicated projects among the tunnels on the North-South Expressway, due to the weak geology, strongly weathered and fragmented rocks. The project was constructed in 15 months, using Austrian technology.
