Deputy Minister of National Defense visits North Korea to promote bilateral defense cooperation

On September 19, according to information from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense , at the invitation of the DPRK Ministry of National Defense, a delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense led by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, and Deputy Minister of National Defense, visited DPRK.

At the talks, the two sides exchanged views on the world and regional situation, the country's situation, the military, foreign policy and defense policy of each country.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien emphasized the tradition of good relations between the two countries; highly appreciated the great achievements that the army and people of North Korea have made in recent years, under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea, headed by General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Armed Forces Kim Jong Un.

For his part, Lieutenant General Kim Min Soep affirmed North Korea's consistent stance in developing cooperative relations between the two countries' militaries.

In recent times, defense cooperation has been one of the important areas of the bilateral relationship, which has been paid attention to and promoted by the leaders of the Party, State and Army of the two countries, including delegation exchanges and high-level contacts. Party and political work are the cooperation contents that both sides attach importance to; since the General Department of Politics of the two countries signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in 2008, the two sides have implemented many specific cooperation contents, such as:

The two sides have paid attention to promoting the exchange of specialized delegations, propaganda publications, political education, and cooperation in language training. In particular, Vietnam has sent students to study Korean at Kim Il Sung University and received students to study Vietnamese at the Vietnam Academy of Military Science, contributing to enhancing understanding between the two armies.

In the coming time, the two sides agreed to focus on promoting cooperation in a number of areas such as: Exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations; training cooperation; military cultural and sports exchanges; research and implementation of cooperation in military medicine, including traditional medicine; border cooperation, defense industry, military technology, information sharing and strategic research issues; strengthening cooperation in multilateral forums...

Regarding cooperation in Party and political work, the two sides continued to effectively implement the contents of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the General Departments of Politics of the two countries, focusing on exchanging specialized delegations, propaganda publications, political education, and experience in Party and political work, contributing to the substantial development of bilateral defense relations.

On this occasion, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien reiterated the invitation of the leaders of the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam to the leaders of the Ministry of National Defense of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to attend the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army; respectfully conveyed the invitation of Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, Director of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army, to the Director of the General Political Department of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to visit Vietnam on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien respectfully invited Lieutenant General Kim Min Seop to visit Vietnam to attend the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 2nd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition in December 2024.

On the same afternoon, a delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense visited the special forces unit of the Korean People's Army.
