Household trash cans - join hands to protect the environment

Previously, in residential areas, people used to put household waste in tightly tied nylon bags and leave them in front of their houses waiting for collection units. This caused unsightliness and environmental pollution.

In Dong Xoai ward, Dong Nai province, since the locality implemented the model "Household trash cans - joining hands to protect the environment", people have been disposing of household waste in the right place. The model contributes to creating environmental beauty and effective garbage collection, thereby making people feel more responsible for preserving the environment for themselves and the community.

People responded enthusiastically.

According to Ms. Bui Thi Hien (in Tien Thanh 1 neighborhood, Dong Xoai ward), in the past, her family often disposed of garbage by burning it or putting it in bags and hanging them in front of the house gate, waiting for the garbage truck to come and collect it. However, in 2023, when the locality implemented self-managed, tightly-lidded trash bins, all of her family's household waste was put in the bins, so it was cleaner.

Ms. Hien shared: “The Ward Fatherland Front and the Ward Women's Union (WWU) promoted and implemented the Family Trash Bin model, my residential area is now clean, the landscape is beautiful and the air is fresh. Since this model was introduced, children in the house have also been educated about environmental protection and voluntarily throw trash in the right place.”

Along the streets of Dong Xoai ward, it is not difficult to see friendly green trash bins, placed right in front of people’s houses. Household trash bins contribute to improving the effectiveness of protecting the living environment in residential areas…

Ms. Leu Thi Thuy, Head of the Women's Association of Tien Thanh 2 Quarter, Dong Xoai Ward, confided: "After the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward and the Women's Union of the ward launched the use of household trash cans, I found that using trash cans is very convenient and practical, protecting the environment and health of my family as well as the community, contributing to a clean and beautiful environment around me, for a more civilized urban area."

The model of Family Trash Cans - Joining Hands to Protect the Environment was formed thanks to the propaganda and mobilization of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Xoai Ward and the Women's Union of Dong Xoai Ward. Seeing the benefits of equipping environmentally friendly trash cans, local households, especially members of the Women's Union, enthusiastically responded in contributing funds to buy trash cans, contributing to building a clean, green, beautiful and safe road.

Ms. Hoang Lan Anh, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Dong Xoai ward said: "The Vietnam Fatherland Front of the ward and the Women's Union of the ward determined that the implementation of household trash bins is very important, meeting the practical needs of environmental protection and ensuring waste classification right from the household. Therefore, the locality has implemented the implementation of each household having its own trash bin with a lid to ensure environmental sanitation. The Women's Union of the ward currently has 16 branches, all of which have implemented it and received the approval and positive response of members."

Model dissemination

Since its launch in 2023, Dong Xoai ward now has over 2,000 household trash bins and many streets are equipped with trash bins of the same model, arranged in neat rows such as Ngo Duc Ke, Ton Duc Thang, Phan Chu Trinh, Tran Huu Do, Bui Vien streets... The model has also spread in residential areas.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang in Tien Thanh 1 Quarter, Dong Xoai Ward said: “It is very good to have a trash can in each household, it not only ensures the hygiene of the surrounding environment but also ensures the beauty of the residential area. With a separate trash can, the trash is collected more neatly, the environment around the house is cleaner”.

Contributing to creating a clean and airy image for the streets, trash bins in residential areas are effectively protecting the environment. Not much cost, easy to buy, suitable design for residential space and especially contributing to raising people's awareness of throwing trash in the right place, in the coming time, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Xoai Ward will continue to deploy to spread this model, striving to "cover" household trash bins to 100% of households in the entire ward.
