According to the announcement of Tri An Hydropower Company, at 3:00 p.m. on October 13, the upstream water level of the reservoir reached 61,794 m (design elevation is 62 m). Meanwhile, the water flow into the reservoir reached 1,220 m3/s; the water flow through the spillway was 480 m3/s; the water flow through the turbine generator was 750 m3/s.
To ensure flood prevention capacity, combined with the low water level downstream of Dong Nai River at Bien Hoa hydrological station, Tri An Hydropower Company increased the amount of water discharged through the reservoir's spillway.
Accordingly, at 8:00 a.m. on October 14, the water flow through the Tri An hydropower spillway increased from 480 m3/s to 640 m3/s.
At 2:00 p.m. the same day, the reservoir operator continued to increase the discharge flow through the spillway to 800 m3/s; the water flow through the turbine from 750 m3/s to 820 m3/s; the total water flow discharged downstream of the Dong Nai River from 1,550 m3/s to 1,620 m3/s.
Tri An Hydropower Company said that depending on weather developments, water flow into the lake, water level of Tri An Hydropower Lake, water level downstream of the river at Bien Hoa hydrological station, the company can change the water flow released through the spillway.
Thus, on October 13 and 14, Tri An Hydropower Company adjusted the flood discharge through the spillway three times to regulate the reservoir.
Tri An Hydroelectric Reservoir has a capacity of over 2.7 billion m3 of water, making it the largest reservoir in the southern provinces. In addition to its main function of generating electricity with a capacity of 400 MW, supplying electricity to the national grid, Tri An Reservoir also has the function of ensuring water for daily life, agriculture , repelling salinity and regulating floods for the downstream of Dong Nai River.
