On August 12, TikTok Vietnam officially introduced a series of new safety and mental health features for teenagers and families when using the platform.
These updates are part of the Family Pairing toolkit, which allows parents to monitor their children's account activity status and provides flexible customization settings to suit each family's unique needs.
TikTok representatives said the new series of updates not only enhance the safety experience for young users, but also accompany families in maintaining open and regular conversations about digital safety, privacy and online behavior.
In addition to the default settings already applied to teen accounts, TikTok continues to expand its Smart Family feature - a tool to help parents and guardians customize their children's experience on the platform in a flexible and appropriate way.
This is an important first step to promoting healthy conversations between parents and children about how to interact and connect safely digitally.
In its latest update, TikTok is introducing a series of upgraded features in “Smart Family” to help parents better understand their children’s account activity. One of the features currently in beta is a feature that sends notifications to parents when their children post public videos , photos, or stories. The goal is to create an environment where parents and teens can openly discuss publicly shared content without compromising their creativity or independence.
TikTok has also added a feature that allows parents to see the privacy choices their 16- and 17-year-olds have made, such as allowing others to download videos or using Duet and Stitch. For users aged 13- and 15-years-old, these options are disabled by default and cannot be changed.

Additionally, a feature previously announced by TikTok that allows teens to notify their parents when they report a video has now been rolled out globally.
Parents won't see the specific content their child reports, these features are designed to make it easier for young people to start conversations about boundaries and online safety with trusted adults in their lives.
TikTok has also launched the Manage Topics feature, allowing users to adjust the frequency of displaying content in more than 10 popular topic groups from Arts, Travel, Nature to Sports .
Through the Smart Family feature, Tiktok will now let parents see the topics their teenage children have chosen to shape their feed.

With better visibility into content preferences, families can connect over topics they care about on TikTok, as well as the content and creators that excite and inspire the whole family.
TikTok previously added a tool to its Smart Family feature that shows a list of accounts that teens have blocked. Now, the platform is further enhancing its protection capabilities with a new tool that allows parents to directly block specific accounts they deem inappropriate for their children.

When an account is blocked, that user will not be able to interact with the teen and content from that account will not appear in their feed. Teens can still request to have it unblocked, but the final decision will be made by the parent./.
