The information appeared in the context of Washington requesting to separate the operation of this application from its parent company ByteDance (China) for national security reasons.

In an interview with Fox News on September 21, former President Donald Trump said that Rupert Murdoch and Lachlan Murdoch “could be among the investors involved in a deal to buy TikTok.” Following this statement, Deadline cited a source saying that Fox Corporation - the owner of Fox News - is actually negotiating to join the group of American investors investing in TikTok.
A deal has been reached in principle but not yet signed, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. She said that after the restructuring, “Americans will hold six of the seven seats on TikTok’s board, and the app’s algorithm will be controlled by the United States.” Bloomberg reported that the signing could be completed in the next few days.
Fox Corporation’s interest in the deal comes as ByteDance is urgently seeking investors to reduce its US ownership to below 20%, a requirement under a federal law enacted last year. President Trump has previously delayed the implementation of the rule four times, but said last week that “substantial progress has been made, including support from Chinese President Xi Jinping.”
Along with Fox, many big names are also said to be joining the investment group, including Larry Ellison (founder of Oracle), Michael Dell (CEO of Dell Technologies), Andreessen Horowitz and Silver Lake Management. Oracle is currently the cloud computing service provider for TikTok and will be in charge of security in the new structure.
If the deal is completed, TikTok in the US will operate under majority ownership of American investors, reducing its dependence on ByteDance and opening a new phase for the app, which has more than 170 million users in the country.
