Indonesian President Joko Widodo recently said that talks with Tesla are still ongoing about the possibility of Tesla investing in Indonesia as Tesla CEO Elon Musk is looking for new markets around the world as his company sets up more production facilities and improves its competitiveness with rivals in developing economies .
Tesla said that one of the main obstacles highlighted is that Indonesia is not a strong EV market and does not have the infrastructure for charging batteries. Although Indonesia has tried to attract foreign EV manufacturers by subsidizing the purchase of battery-powered vehicles, it is not an ideal location for Tesla to expand.
In fact, some previous reports from Tesla have suggested that Malaysia is a more suitable market for the company than Indonesia.
Whether it is Indonesia, Malaysia or any other market, Tesla has a clear policy of expanding the market to maintain its leadership in the field of electric vehicle production. With the goal of producing 20 million electric vehicles by 2030, Tesla will penetrate new markets and be able to offer more affordable models.
