(NLDO) - Listening to the person impersonating a tax officer, a man in Binh Dinh installed an electronic tax payment app and was scammed out of 234 million VND in his account.

On December 30, Tuy Phuoc District Police, Binh Dinh Province, said that the unit had just received a complaint from Mr. Y. (residing in Phuoc Hiep Commune, Tuy Phuoc District) about being scammed out of more than 234 million VND in his bank account when he installed a fake electronic tax payment app.

Fake app interface used for fraud

According to Mr. Y.'s report, he recently received a call from a strange number, claiming to be an officer of the Tuy Phuoc District Tax Department, then asked to add him as a friend via Zalo and sent him a link to install the electronic tax app to pay taxes according to regulations.

Believing the words, Mr. Y. quickly installed the app and lost control of his phone. After regaining control of his phone, Mr. Y. checked and discovered that the entire amount of more than 234 million VND in his account was gone.

To prevent fraud, Tuy Phuoc District Police recommend that people be vigilant against the above tricks and absolutely do not install software or applications as requested by strangers calling.
