Summary of 30 years of agricultural extension activities

On the afternoon of December 29, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center held a conference to summarize 30 years of agricultural extension activities (1993 - 2023) to evaluate the results and achievements and set out directions and tasks for the coming time.

Attending the conference were comrade Le Quoc Thanh, Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center; leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; former leaders of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center through the periods; representatives of a number of units, enterprises, and cooperatives.

On November 24, 1993, the Ninh Binh Agricultural Extension Center under the Department of Agriculture was established. After 30 years, the agricultural extension system has gradually matured, with increasingly diverse contents and forms of operation. Based on the practical situation of agricultural development over the periods, appropriate agricultural extension programs, models and projects have been implemented, such as: Converting from early spring rice to late spring rice; sowing seedlings using plastic covering method; expanding the area of specialty rice, high quality associated with organic production; applying high technology in vegetable production associated with industry cooperatives and product consumption. In addition, there are models of converting ineffective rice land, colored soil, mixed garden land to grow Taiwanese guava, dragon fruit, lotus, black summer grapes... for high economic value.

In livestock farming, there have been programs to improve and enhance the physique of local goats and cows towards meat; models using biological bedding, using closed barns in pig farming; biogas programs, manure separation in waste treatment to solve environmental pollution problems...

In addition, based on the characteristics of each different ecological sub-region in the province, the fisheries extension program has suitable models to maximize regional advantages.

Technical advances in forestry have also been effectively implemented by agricultural extension, such as: Guiding farmers to implement the agroforestry farming method of "taking short-term to feed long-term", planting forests with many canopy layers and many tree species to take advantage of growing space and prevent erosion.

It can be affirmed that the programs, projects and agricultural models implemented by the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center have had a positive and comprehensive impact on the production and life of farmers, gradually improving productivity, quality and production efficiency; contributing significantly to increasing the agricultural production value of our province from 50 million VND/ha in 2003 to 86 million VND/ha in 2011 and expected to reach 155 million VND/ha in 2023.

In the coming time, closely following the orientation of the industry, the province, the needs of the people, especially the Agricultural Sector Restructuring Plan, Resolution 05 of the Provincial Party Committee on developing agricultural economy towards commodity production, applying high technology, advanced and sustainable production forms; Resolution No. 32/2022/NQ-HDND of the Provincial People's Council regulating policies to support the development of agricultural and rural economy in the province, Ninh Binh Agricultural Extension Center will build and implement programs and models of agricultural extension applying high technology, smart technology, linking in commodity production according to the value chain, with advanced production methods to promote the unique advantages of the province. Thereby contributing to building a highly efficient agriculture associated with eco -tourism , closing the value chain, building Ninh Binh countryside with a strong identity.

Speaking at the conference, comrade Le Quoc Thanh, Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center, highly appreciated and praised the achievements of the Ninh Binh Provincial Agricultural Extension Center over the past 30 years. At the same time, he emphasized that Vietnamese agriculture is developing strongly with a different mindset, a different way of thinking, and efforts to create sustainable values. Therefore, the agricultural extension team must be the pioneers, changing the agricultural extension mindset, changing the lives of farmers, changing agriculture and rural areas of the country. It is not only about transferring scientific and technical advances but also about mastering knowledge about economics, markets, and digital transformation... The agricultural extension force must constantly study, seek information, and improve their knowledge to become more professional and elite. Agricultural extension centers need to find ways to socialize agricultural extension activities, strengthen coordination between state agricultural extension and enterprise agricultural extension in technology transfer and closing the agricultural value chain, focusing on developing electronic agricultural extension and community agricultural extension.

On this occasion, 57 collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in agricultural extension activities were commended by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the National Agricultural Extension Center and the Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
