Dozens of households in Tan Thanh and Thanh Lam had their houses flooded, some deeply, disrupting daily activities and making life difficult. In Tan Thanh commune alone, more than 15 hectares of rice of over 300 households in Ben, Dong Ao, Dinh Hau, Luong Phuong villages... were submerged in water, many areas collapsed, and were at risk of total loss.
Faced with that situation, the Defense Command of Area 1 - Phu Van coordinated with the authorities of Tan Thanh and Thanh Lam communes to mobilize nearly 200 military officers and soldiers, commune police, youth union members, and women's union members to help people "escape the flood", evacuate, raise assets, and move furniture from families at risk of deep flooding to safe high points. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Duong, Chief of Thanh Lam Commune Police, said: "From early morning, the unit mobilized nearly 60 officers and soldiers of the grassroots security force to go directly to each household, support raising assets, moving furniture to limit damage caused by floodwaters. At the same time, the police force also increased patrols, maintained security and order in deeply flooded areas, coordinated with other forces to ensure the safety of people during the evacuation and overcoming the consequences".
Along with the evacuation, the forces of the Defense Command of Area 1 - Phu Van coordinated with the forces of Tan Thanh commune to urgently go to the fields, coordinate with the people to harvest the flooded rice fields, and dry them; in which, many single-parent households, the elderly or those in difficult circumstances were also given priority for timely support.
Comrade Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Secretary of the Tan Thanh Commune Youth Union, said: “From 8 a.m., more than 20 youth union members were present in the fields to join the people in harvesting. We divided into small groups, focusing on rescuing the deeply flooded and collapsed rice fields first, then transporting them to the warehouse yard to dry. Many youth union members did not hesitate to wade in the water for hours to save the rice for the people. At the same time, some groups coordinated with the police and military forces to support raising assets and moving furniture for households at risk of deep flooding. The common spirit of the youth is “wherever the water rises, we will be there”, determined to work with the people to minimize damage and soon stabilize their lives after the flood.”
Expressing her gratitude for the help of local forces, Ms. Tran Thi Ha - Dong Ao village (Tan Thanh commune) shared: "This year, due to the weather, the 2025 winter-spring rice crop was harvested later than every year. When the rice was ripe and ready for harvest, it was affected by storm No. 10, causing heavy rain, causing many rice fields in the village to collapse and flood, including more than 1.5 hectares of rice of my family. Fortunately, there was the attention and help of the military force, commune police, youth union members,... to support timely harvest".
The timely and practical mobilization of forces in the initial rescue step has contributed to helping the people of Tan Thanh and Thanh Lam limit immediate damage and protect crops and property in floodwaters. In the face of the complicated developments of the flood on the Day River, the synchronous and responsible participation of the Party Committee, the government and local forces will continue to be an important support for people to confidently overcome difficulties, overcome consequences, and soon stabilize their lives and production.
