According to CNN, on the morning of July 15, speaking at the Oval Office, President Joe Biden emphasized the need to "cool down" in politics, and called on people to unite after former President Donald Trump was shot while campaigning in Pennsylvania.
"I want to talk to you about the need to cool things down in politics," Mr. Biden said. "Remember, while we disagree, we are not enemies. We are neighbors, friends, colleagues, citizens, and most importantly, fellow Americans. We have to stand together."
President Biden asserted that America will not allow political violence to become normalized following the attempted assassination of Mr. Trump. Mr. Biden asserted that all people in America are to be treated with dignity and respect, and that hatred has no place.
President Biden directed the Secret Service to provide Mr. Trump with all protective resources after the former president was assassinated in Pennsylvania and increased security surveillance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on July 15.
Investigators are expanding their investigation into the suspect in the shooting that killed former President Donald Trump. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Matthew Crooks is a resident of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, about 56 kilometers south of Butler, where Mr. Trump held his campaign rally.
Public records show Crooks lived in a home with parents who were both behavioral health counselors. Crooks' records do not mention any criminal or traffic violations, nor do they have any financial problems such as mortgage foreclosure.
A former high school classmate described Matthew Crooks as quiet, kind, and good at math. Bethel Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where Crooks worked, said the suspect was a dietary aide at the facility, with a clean background and work history.
After the assassination at the election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Matthew Crooks' body was found next to the body of an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, one of the most popular rifle models in the United States. Investigators believe the gun Thomas Matthew Crooks used belonged to the suspect's father, purchased at least 6 months ago.
