Russian President Putin reveals US weapons source in Hamas hands

VTC NewsVTC News14/10/2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a statement on October 13 that some of the weapons provided by the West to Ukraine ended up in the hands of extremist armed groups, including Hamas. This is related to the corruption that exists in the Ukrainian army.

The above statement was made by Mr. Putin on the sidelines of the Conference of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Kyrgystan.

“We all know about corruption in Ukraine. There is no shortage of buyers on the black market for weapons, and there is no shortage of sellers in Ukraine,” Putin said, noting that some of the Western arms aid to Ukraine has gone to the Middle East and Africa.

According to Mr. Putin, if conditions permit, Ukrainian officers are ready to sell weapons to Russia.

The issue of Hamas using weapons sent to Ukraine by the US and its allies was first raised by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, who also said that these weapons had been used in Hamas raids on southern Israel.

In response, Ukraine's intelligence agency accused Russia of sending Western weapons captured in Ukraine to Hamas in a "false flag" operation aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian military.

For its part, Israel neither confirmed nor denied Medvedev's weapons claims, but denied Russia's involvement in the Hamas attack.

On October 7, Hamas fired thousands of rockets into Israel, followed by attacks on nearby Israeli settlements and towns. Israeli authorities said more than 1,300 people were killed in the surprise attack. Just a day later, Tel Viv responded by declaring “war” against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking about the escalating conflict, Mr. Putin noted that Israel is facing an unprecedented attack but its response to the Gaza Strip is unnecessary.

Mr. Putin also offered Russia to act as a mediator, as Moscow has “very good relations” with Israel, as well as traditional ties with the Palestinians, “so no one should doubt that Russia can play a good role as a mediator for peace .”
