Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên16/05/2023

Questions about vocational training tuition fees were answered in an online TV consultation program with the topic "Taking advantage of vocational training after secondary school" at thanhnien.vn , Facebook fanpage, YouTube channel, and TikTok of Thanh Nien Newspaper on the afternoon of May 16.

Free vocational training, only pay tuition for cultural subjects

During the consultation program, Ngo Thuy Linh, a 9th grade student at Binh Tri Dong A Secondary School (Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City) and several other students asked the question: "Do I have to pay tuition after graduating from secondary school to go to vocational school? Does the government support the completion of the college program or only support secondary school education? Besides tuition, do students have to pay any other fees?"

Secondary school graduates who go to vocational school are exempted from tuition fees at intermediate level.

Answering this question, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tho, Director of the General Program of Viet Khoa School, said: "According to Decree 81 of the Government in 2021, junior high school graduates who go to vocational school will receive tuition support from the state for 4 semesters (during the intermediate level). They only pay one tuition fee for 4 cultural subjects and do not have to pay any other fees."

According to Mr. Tho, if after finishing secondary school, students want to transfer to college, at Viet Khoa School, they only have to pay 2 additional semesters of college tuition, about 6 million VND/semester. Thus, each month, they only pay more than 1 million VND.

Regarding the four cultural subjects, Mr. Tho informed that students will study three compulsory subjects: math, literature, history and one additional subject for their profession. For example, for technical majors, students will study physics.

"After finishing each subject, students will take an end-of-year exam and only need to complete the school years to complete the general education program and receive a certificate. If they want to take the high school graduation exam, they must study 7 subjects of the regular education program," Mr. Tho shared.

Meanwhile, student Do Van Phuong (District 4, Ho Chi Minh City) wondered: "Between Japanese language and culinary arts, which major is easier to find a job and has a higher income? Can Japanese language majors work in Japan? Can I open a restaurant after finishing culinary arts?"

Mr. Nguyen Tien Danh, Director of the Center for Career Support and Business Relations at Viet Khoa School, said that the Japanese language major is very "hot", students can choose this major if they have a talent for languages and after graduation can go to Japan to work because the school has links with businesses in Japan.

"If you love cooking and have a talent for preparing food, you should choose culinary engineering. By studying this major, you will have the necessary knowledge and skills to cook, participate in the restaurant industry, and when you graduate, you can completely open a restaurant if you have capital and business knowledge," said Mr. Danh.

Teacher Danh also noted that students only need to be diligent, try hard to study well, be willing to experience, and have good working ability, then no matter what major they study, they will have job opportunities with high income.
