Vinh City strives to be "drug-free" by 2026

By 2026, Vinh city, recognized as a "Drug-free city", will become a "civilized, modern and livable" urban area. This is the goal clearly stated at the conference to disseminate and implement the project to build a "drug-free" Vinh city this morning (November 21).

The conference to disseminate and implement Decision No. 2364 dated September 9, 2024 was organized by the Provincial People's Committee. Comrade Le Hong Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee attended and delivered a speech at the conference.

The project to build Vinh city "clean of drugs" aims to gradually control, prevent and repel drugs, striving by 2026, Vinh will meet the criteria, be recognized as a "Clean city of drugs", become a "civilized, modern and livable" urban area; move towards taking Nghe An out of the key and complicated drug areas of the country, the project will be deployed in 100% of wards and communes (before and after expanding administrative boundaries) and divided into 3 phases.

This is the first national project, a breakthrough and unprecedented in the country; carrying out two tasks: "Cleaning up" and "Keeping clean" of drugs.

Currently, in Vinh City, there are 303 drug addicts, illegal drug users and post-rehab managers. Steering Committee 138 of Nghe An province recommends reviewing and correctly assessing the current situation to have solutions to "clean up" drugs in a real, fundamental, sustainable way, not for targets or achievements.

Speaking at the conference, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh emphasized: After 2.5 years of implementing and replicating the Provincial Police's Project on building "Drug-free border communes", up to now, the whole province has 284/460 commune-level localities recognized as meeting the "drug-free" criteria, 7 district-level localities have 100% of "drug-free" commune-level localities.

Affirming that this Project has created positive changes in the work of preventing and combating crime and drug abuse in the whole province, comrade Le Hong Vinh also assigned tasks to provincial departments, branches, organizations, agencies, units and localities to coordinate and support Vinh City to deploy and complete the objectives of the Project issued by the Provincial People's Committee. For Vinh City, it is necessary to thoroughly grasp and promote the combined strength of the entire political system and all classes of people; deploy and effectively organize the implementation of the assigned tasks in the Project./.
