Speaking at the conference, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang emphasized the close neighborly relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai. According to him, after the merger, both localities have large scale and potential for development, but the responsibility is also very heavy. The cooperation and development of the two localities is very necessary to connect the development space.
Although transportation was the main issue of the working session, he said that the two localities also needed to connect feelings, connect desires and aspirations, connect to overcome previous obstacles, and realize the goals the two localities had set.

Regarding the conference content, he requested delegates to discuss in depth, speak directly to the problem, have practical solutions and specific plans to remove major current obstacles in implementing traffic connection projects of the two localities, especially in compensation and site clearance.
Previously, in his opening speech, Secretary of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee Vu Hong Van emphasized that the conference was an opportunity for Dong Nai province to learn from Ho Chi Minh City's economic development experience, including connecting traffic infrastructure between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province. At the same time, it demonstrated a strategic step in continuing to concretize Resolution 24 of the Politburo on socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Southeast region until 2030, with a vision to 2045; The Southeast region planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, has been approved by the Prime Minister. In particular, it clearly identified the Southeast region to become a dynamic and modern economic region; especially with Long Thanh International Airport - a national strategic infrastructure expected to be put into operation in 2026, opening up new development space for both the Southeast region and the whole country.

“Dong Nai province is aware that if the connection is not synchronized, it will lose opportunities, if it is delayed, it will fall behind,” Comrade Vu Hong Van emphasized and said that with that awareness, Dong Nai province is committed to not only discussing but also taking action, not only agreeing on policies but also coming to specific resolutions and clear roadmaps to implement key transport projects, roads, highways, beltways as well as the urban railway (metro) from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh International Airport.
Comrade Vu Hong Van added that the synchronization of the transport infrastructure connection system between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province is of special importance. To serve the connection of Long Thanh Airport, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City have coordinated with the Ministry of Construction to implement many expressway projects. When Long Thanh International Airport is put into operation, in addition to the expressway projects being implemented, it is necessary to invest in connecting bridge projects and strategic railway lines... These projects not only serve traffic but also create potential for industrial development, logistics and high-quality services; forming a seamless and sustainable development center between the two localities.

At the meeting, Dong Nai province proposed two key tasks. That is, unifying the tasks of each locality in implementing each specific project; accelerating the progress of planned projects and unifying investment policies, ensuring timely completion; promoting efficiency and early exploitation, especially projects directly connecting to Long Thanh International Airport. Along with that, researching and supplementing new connecting traffic routes based on the actual situation of the two localities after the administrative unit arrangement, meeting the requirements of regional development in the new period, ensuring flexibility, practicality and long-term vision, optimizing the advantages of Long Thanh International Airport and shaping a sustainable, interconnected economic space.
After the merger, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province have a very large transport infrastructure planning network. Based on the regional railway network planning projects, there are currently 5 railway lines connecting the two localities, including 2 urban railway lines and 3 national railway lines.
Based on the regional road network planning projects, there are currently about 45 connecting locations (belts, expressways, national highways, main roads, provincial roads) connecting traffic between the two localities. Of these, there are 14 existing connecting routes, 13 connecting routes under investment and 18 connecting routes already in the planning, not yet invested or under investment research.
Currently, to meet the travel needs of passengers between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province (after the merger), there are 118 buses operating on 9 inter-provincial bus routes, with 504 trips/day and 79 inter-provincial passenger bus routes connecting and operating with a stable number of passengers. In addition, there are also waterway routes and 12 cross-river passenger terminals connecting traffic between the two localities.
