The State Funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong attracted the attention of people at home and abroad. Everyone clearly saw the special feelings of compatriots, comrades, soldiers nationwide, our compatriots abroad and international friends towards the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. He was an exceptionally outstanding leader, a shining example of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, a loyal communist party member with great prestige of our Party, State and People.

In that situation, most of the press agencies, big and small, domestic and international, are interested in reporting. Like other press agencies, with each major event, the Editorial Board of Nong Thon Ngay Nay/Dan Viet Electronic Newspaper always has timely instructions. For the funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the newspaper's photojournalist team was assigned to cover the event at the National Funeral House No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi . Some other reporters traveled to the General Secretary's hometown (Lai Da village, Dong Anh, Hanoi)... to record the flow of people coming to pay their respects and bid farewell to the respected leader.

We only believe that journalism is to convey valuable information and images to readers. Each photojournalist must try and make every effort to have the most solemn, beautiful and best images. With the plan given, reporters all know their duties, actively choose and search for the most suitable topics to send to readers.

In fact, there have been many other large and small events in the country that have been focused on by the photojournalist group of Nong Thon Ngay Nay/Dan Viet Electronic Newspaper. Although working at many different events, they all have one thing in common: following all instructions from the Organizing Committee.

The funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong took place in the summer, the working locations were crowded…but for us when working, the weather temperature was a “small matter”, the assigned work and must always be completed, even completed to an excellent level was the first requirement. No matter if it was pouring rain or scorching sun, we still had to stick to the scene and pursue the event.

Turn that emotion into motivation

Emotions surged and grief always "surrounded" us during the two days of working on the funeral. However, with the responsibility of being journalists, people who preserve every memory and moment, the photojournalist team of Nong Thon Ngay Nay Newspaper/Dan Viet Electronic always tried their best to convey images to readers near and far.

You can't do photojournalism without "passion"

For each photo published in the newspaper, many people think that the reporter just goes there to take the camera and send it to the editorial office for publication. However, the reality is not so! For professional photojournalists like us, to have the most realistic, vivid photos, both current and artistic... we have to go through a challenging training process.

The profession of photojournalist is unique to those who are trained in the field in school but are not necessarily able to become photojournalists. On the contrary, there are those who are passionate about photography and work hard to become excellent photojournalists, recognized by those in the profession.

You can't do photojournalism without "passion" because this is a profession that requires a huge investment, a whole apparatus of several hundred million just to receive a few hundred thousand, or even a few tens of thousands per photo, not every reporter can survive.

Creativity in photojournalism is also a highly appreciated aspect. For the same event, if a photojournalist has a different perspective, people in the profession, leaders of press agencies, and management agencies will see it and "wow" then that is the reporter's success.

I realize that, to have beautiful photos, reporters need to improve their knowledge, be willing to take challenges to overcome their own limits, learn from previous generations, and refer to international press photo angles to have modern photo angles, which are also prerequisites if they want to progress and develop. Following the direction of the Editorial Board, at Nong Thon Ngay Nay/Dan Viet Electronic Newspaper, we regularly organize professional exchange sessions and invite lecturers to exchange to improve quality. Thanks to that, the overall photo quality of the newspaper has also been improved.

The Press Moments photo contest creates a colorful competition

The Press Moments Photo Contest has entered its 6th year. I see the quality and quantity of entries increasing each year, showing that the contest is increasingly attractive. This is also a challenge that forces journalists to actively research, discover and present better topics.

It can be said that the "Press Moment" Photo Award is one of the highly appreciated pure press photo awards. The judges of the contest are all professionals with many years of experience and solid practical theory. In terms of prize value, it is also considered large compared to other contests.

These things have attracted thousands of professional and non-professional reporters to participate, creating a colorful competition, "a hundred flowers blooming" that is rare in any competition. When we work at each event, we whisper to each other "do well, at the end of the year, let's enter the Press Moments competition".

On this occasion, I would like to thank the Organizing Committee, the Journalists and Public Opinion Newspaper - Vietnam Journalists Association for organizing this extremely meaningful contest. It can be said that this is a great playground for photojournalists across the country, creating motivation to work and strive for generations of reporters.
