Pride of ancient Muong land
Muong Bi is still preserving intact tangible and intangible cultural heritages such as: Mo Muong, Chieng Muong, Muong folk songs, traditional musical instrument performing arts and unique features in the cultural life of the Muong ethnic group such as stilt houses, cuisine , ethnic costumes... In addition, Muong Bi also has cultural relics such as Luy Ai Hamlet Temple, Cot Co Mountain... along with beautiful natural landscapes that are valuable potential for tourism development.
Muong Bi commune has Luy Ai hamlet which was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2008 as a typical traditional village of ethnic minorities and a representative hamlet of the Muong ethnic group. The highlight of Luy Ai is that it still preserves many traditional stilt houses, making it an attractive destination for tourists who love to experience cultural activities and Muong ethnic heritage.
In recent years, the people of Luy Ai hamlet have joined hands to clean up the landscape, plant flowers along the paths, and actively maintain environmental hygiene. Some households have invested in homestay models to attract domestic and international tourists to visit and experience. Luy Ai has been recognized as a 3-star OCOP community tourism destination.
Luy Ai hamlet cultural house displays ancient gongs - a unique cultural feature of the Muong ethnic group.
Coming to Luy Ai, Muong Bi, tourists not only get to visit but also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the life of the Muong people: wearing traditional costumes, participating in activities such as planting rice, fishing, preparing traditional dishes with the locals, experiencing handicrafts....
In addition, as a land rich in cultural identity, 100% of Muong Bi hamlets now have regularly operating art troupes. Annual art and sports festivals are also organized, contributing to promoting and preserving the beauty of the Muong ethnic group. It can be said that Muong Bi is one of the localities where the Muong ethnic cultural colors are still preserved more strongly. This is a strength to attract researchers and investors to survey and invest in the tourism sector, especially cultural tourism.
In particular, in 2017, this place was honored to welcome General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit. This affirmed the precious value and significance of Muong Bi culture.
Comrade Bui Van Tinh, Secretary of the Muong Bi Commune Party Committee, said: Identifying culture as a valuable asset, in recent years, Muong Bi has made efforts to promote the value of cultural heritage, scenic spots, and cultural identity of the Muong ethnic group, gradually linking it with tourism development and local socio-economic development.
Cultural and sports institutions are being built with attention. The highlight is the cultural activities and traditional festivals of the Muong ethnic group, which are held annually at the provincial level, creating a widespread spread of Muong ethnic culture.
It can be seen that the Muong ethnic cultural identity is not only the pride of the Muong community, but also a valuable resource for socio-economic development, a condition for sustainable cultural tourism development.
To make cultural identity a driving force for socio-economic development
The 1st Congress of Muong Bi Commune Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030, determined the goal of the new term as exploiting potentials and advantages, mobilizing all resources for socio-economic development; preserving traditional cultural identity of the nation; striving for Muong Bi commune to meet new rural standards by 2030.
Among the 4 breakthroughs that Muong Bi will focus on implementing, an important breakthrough is to preserve and promote the cultural values of ethnic groups, especially the Muong ethnic group, contributing to building a Peace Culture to create momentum for socio-economic development.
Step by step to realize the goal, currently Muong Bi is conducting surveys and planning to build a new stadium for the commune, parking lot; proposing to upgrade the road from Provincial Road 436 and the route from National Highway 6 to Luy Ai hamlet, embanking the stream to prevent landslides on the banks of Trong stream running through the Muong ethnic cultural space conservation area.
The idea of the Muong Bi commune government is to build a Muong ethnic cultural space conservation area, located in Luy Ai hamlet, with the orientation of a traditional Muong village in operation, encouraging local people to live and work in this space and carry out daily activities such as: handicrafts, small rituals, processing traditional dishes... so that visitors can observe, interact and experience authentically.
The annual Khai Ha Festival attracts a large number of tourists to visit and experience.
To preserve and promote traditional cultural values in the context of digital transformation, Comrade Bui Minh Hong, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The Commune will focus on building multimedia communication channels such as YouTube, TikTok, and podcasts specializing in Muong culture; attracting young people to participate in content creation, bringing Muong culture closer to the young public.
Localities devote resources to restoring, digitizing and preserving intangible cultural forms at high risk of extinction such as ethnic costumes, languages, Mo Muong performing arts, ancient folk songs, ancient dances, folk games, traditional crafts, etc.
Step by step research to build a Virtual Reality Interactive Museum (VR/AR) is a type of digital museum that allows visitors to explore Muong cultural space, artifacts, festivals, traditional stilt house architecture through virtual reality technology. Connecting real tours with digital content; when visitors visit cultural sites, they can use a mobile application to scan QR codes and view more videos, images, events, stories about the history and significance of that site.
Create a “digital festival” parallel to the traditional festival by being able to organize an “online Khai Ha festival” with livestream and interactive content, helping those who cannot come in person to still participate and feel the festival atmosphere.
Muong Bi commune is also conducting surveys and developing a training plan for local people in tourism knowledge and skills. The orientation of developing community tourism is associated with protecting and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of the Muong ethnic group, creating a sustainable livelihood model for people, contributing to increasing income, striving to have no poor households in the commune by 2030 and completing the construction of new rural areas.
