Hai Duong will have 12 days to focus on collecting and storing water for winter-spring crop production.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong province requested the People's Committees of districts, towns, cities, and enterprises exploiting and managing irrigation works in the province to proactively deploy plans to take, store, and discharge water in accordance with the local sowing and planting plan and cropping season structure based on the above two water discharge periods.

Take advantage of the time when the water level on the main river system is high to bring water to flood areas most effectively. Practice water-saving irrigation and have a plan to reserve water for watering rice and crops.

Localities and units that take water directly from the external river system need to make the most of tidal peaks to take and store water in the main canal system, increasing the area of ​​self-flowing irrigation. Regularly monitor salinity and saltwater intrusion at the water intakes from external rivers to proactively take water into the system according to plan, ensuring quality.

The Department noted that Chi Linh City needs to strictly manage water resources in reservoirs and not drain water from reservoirs for aquatic exploitation or other purposes.

Deputy General Director of the Provincial Irrigation Works Exploitation Company, Nguyen Thi Tu, said that up to now, the irrigation works exploitation enterprises of districts, towns and cities have basically cleaned, dredged and repaired the sections of canal banks under their management that were eroded and degraded. Most of the pumping stations have been repaired, the discharge pipes replaced, the suction pipes cleaned, ensuring the conditions for irrigation operations.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , the Northern Delta region has a total of 12 days to get water for the 2024-2025 winter-spring rice crop. Phase 1 from 0:00 on January 12 to 24:00 on January 16, 2025 (5 days), phase 2 from 0:00 on February 8 to 24:00 on February 14, 2025 (7 days).

It is expected that after December 26, the Bac Hung Hai system will take buffer water and store maximum water into the system.

In the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, Hai Duong plans to plant 63,000 hectares, including 53,000 hectares of rice and 10,000 hectares of vegetables. A representative of the provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection informed that as of December 12, about 85% of the rice-growing area had been plowed.
