Initial investigation results determined that, before the start of the European Football Championship (Euro 2024) and the South American Championship (Copa America 2024), Cao Duc Quy contacted a number of acquaintances via the internet to get a Master level football betting account to log in to the website https:/hira88.com.
When having an account, Quy gave Nguyen Tien Duong an Agent account with a limit of 15,000 points, equivalent to 900 million VND. Then, Duong continued to divide it into many Member accounts for the subjects in the chain to receive commissions.
Police took statements from suspects in a football betting ring.
Nguyen Tien Duong confessed that before Euro 2024, he contacted Cao Duc Quy and was given a football betting account by Quy. Then, Duong divided it into small amounts and gave it to Vu Quoc Viet, Vu Van Nam and Le Duc Hiep for everyone to play.
Duong further admitted, for example, if he wins or loses 1 million, Duong gets 500 thousand. The form of play converts virtual points on the machine into real money, 1 virtual point on the machine is equivalent to 100 thousand VND, the biggest game is about 100 to 120 points.
After a period of establishing a special case, on July 5, Ha Long City Police organized to solve the case, arresting the above 5 subjects. The police agency also extracted betting data on the betting accounts of the subjects, thereby determining that from May 2024 to the time of arrest, these subjects had transacted with an amount of more than 100 billion VND.
Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Van Thuyet, Deputy Head of Ha Long Police, said: “Since the beginning of the year, Ha Long City Police has directed professional teams, ward and commune police, especially the Criminal Police Team, to strengthen professional measures to combat gambling crimes and organized gambling on the internet. Up to this point, Ha Long City Police have arrested and handled more than 11 cases and more than 50 subjects.
When it came to the European and South American football tournaments, the Provincial Police Director launched a high-profile campaign to attack online football betting crimes. Ha Long City Police established a special project and successfully broke it, arresting 5 suspects. Initially, it was determined that these suspects transacted online using virtual points and converted them into real money, about 150 billion VND.
Currently, the case is being continued to be investigated and strictly handled by Ha Long City Police according to the provisions of law.
