After the merger, Dong Nai province has 72 rural communes. Through review according to the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the whole province has 67/72 communes meeting the NTM standards (reaching more than 93%); of which, there are 25 communes meeting the advanced NTM standards (reaching 34%) and 8 communes meeting the model NTM standards.
By the end of 2025, the province will maintain the same status after the province's merger because the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has issued a document directing to stop reviewing and recognizing communes that meet NTM standards in the 2021-2025 period.

The target set for 2026 is that the whole province will have at least 5 communes meeting the advanced NTM standards. Through review, the whole province has about 7 communes that can complete the advanced NTM standards in 2026 according to the draft of the new set of criteria of the Central Government, including Xuan Loc, Dau Giay, Dinh Quan, Trang Bom, Cam My, Dong Phu, Loc Ninh communes. These communes are due to the merger of communes that previously achieved the advanced NTM standards, so after the merger, they are considered to have completed the NTM standards. These communes all have strengths in terms of income criteria, technical economic infrastructure, and cultural institutions.
At the working session, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang set the goal of building new rural areas of the province in the new period of 2026-2030, striving to have 90% of the total number of communes in the province achieving new rural areas, of which at least 50% of communes achieving advanced new rural areas, higher than the national average.
In addition, the province aims to have 10% of modern NTM communes, equal to the national average; this is a new target in the 2026-2030 period according to the draft set of criteria of the Central Government, replacing the current set of model NTM criteria.
Regarding the public investment portfolio in new rural construction, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang requested relevant departments and branches to review, especially the central government's public investment sources, and continue to allocate appropriate parts to localities according to the previous plan.
