Dong Thap University considers educational science and teacher training as the core.

On January 10, Dong Thap University held a ceremony to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, Dong Thap province, lecturers and students of the school through the years, and many foreign delegates attended the ceremony.

The Board of Directors of Dong Thap University received the emulation flag from the Government on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the school's founding.

20 years ago, in response to the need to train and develop teachers and educational managers for the Mekong Delta, Dong Thap University of Education was established on the basis of Dong Thap College of Education according to Decision No. 8.2003 dated January 10, 2003 of the Prime Minister. In September 2008, Dong Thap University of Education was renamed Dong Thap University, a multi-disciplinary, multi-system, multi-level training school under the Ministry of Education and Training.

Leaders of Dong Thap province through the periods and a large number of cadres, lecturers and students of Dong Thap University attended the 20th anniversary celebration of the school's founding.

When becoming Dong Thap University in 2003, the school had only 165 staff and lecturers, with 21 masters, no doctors. Up to now, the school has 548 officials and employees, including 18 associate professors, 91 doctors, 333 masters. The school has cooperative relationships with 42 international units and universities from Russia, the Netherlands, the US, China, Thailand, Japan, Korea... The school is training 1 doctoral major, 10 master's majors, 31 university training majors, 1 college training major with a scale of more than 10,000 students.

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Dong Thap University received a certificate of setting a Vietnamese record with the model "5,000 VND House", mobilizing monthly contributions to build nearly 100 houses for students in difficult circumstances of the school.

During the period 2003 - 2023, the school participated in training and fostering nearly 2,000 masters, 32,000 full-time university bachelors, 140,000 students in the joint training system, second degrees and classes, fostering programs... contributing to human resource training.

Dr. Ho Van Thong, Principal of Dong Thap University, said: “In the period of 2021-2030, the school has identified the mission of training highly qualified, multi-disciplinary human resources, in which educational science and teacher training are the core; scientific research and providing community services; contributing to the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta region and the whole country. In the next period, the goal is to become a high-quality training and scientific research center of Vietnam and Southeast Asia.”

On this occasion, Dong Thap University was honored to receive the Prime Minister's emulation flag; receive the certificate of quality assessment of higher education institutions for the second cycle and the sixth training program of the school. The Communist Youth Union of Dong Thap University was also awarded a certificate of Vietnam record by the Vietnam Record Organization for the model "5,000 VND House", a model of mobilizing monthly contribution funds to build nearly 100 houses for students in difficult circumstances of the school.
