Black girls are born to inspire

Now, a decade has passed, along with tens of millions of music listeners around the world , Doechii understands that prophecy has come true. Music is the greatest gift that the girl born in 1998 can bring to the audience, inspiring them, giving listeners faith in life.

Doechii's biggest milestone in life was when she won the 2025 Grammy just a few days ago.

She became the third woman in history to do this, joining her female rapper predecessors Lauryn Hill and Cardi B.

"I poured my heart and soul into this mixtape. It's a very honest portrayal of who I am. I've been through a lot myself. And I'm proud of the fact that I've dedicated myself to sobriety. God told me that if I do that, it will pay off. And He showed me how beautiful that payoff is," Doechii said on stage accepting the Grammy.

The little girl's real name is Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon, born and raised in Tampa, a small city in the state of Florida (USA).

The album Alligator Bites Never Heal released in 2024 marks a breakthrough in the 27-year-old's career.

In high school, Doechii set her sights on the Howard W. Blake School of the Arts, which opened the door for the young girl to ballet, singing, cheerleading, and gymnastics.

"The way gymnasts train is really, really hard. It's a tough, arduous journey. But that's what shaped me, I'm a very competitive person and I want to be the best."

While studying at the School of Art, Doechii began experimenting with freestyle rap. She released her debut song on SoundCloud in 2016. By 2020, Doechii had become famous on TikTok with the single Yucky Blucky Fruitcake and went viral with Persuasive in 2022.

The young girl then became the first female rapper to sign with Top Dawg Entertainment - the famous entertainment company behind talented names like SZA and Kendrick Lamar.

Doechii impresses listeners with his skillful use of lyrics in every rap song. Rolling Stone commented that Doechii delivers his lyrics in a very "cartoonish", lively and even a bit quirky way.

Her work is a true reflection of her life experiences, from her time as an alcoholic and drug addict to the discrimination she faced as a woman of color in the LGBT community in her home country.

Young artists have good influence on the media

Five years ago, Doechii was just another female rapper struggling to find her place in the vast music market.

In a clip posted on her personal Youtube page, the little girl shared at that moment, in front of the camera: "Today I was fired from my current job. Thank God."

Doechii regularly updates videos about his journey to find success in music on his personal Youtube.

"Maybe tomorrow I'll go to a record label and ask if they have any trainee positions. I have nothing to lose, no house, no money, no kids. Why bother, I'll do it."

During her 5-year journey to becoming the female rapper she is today, the Tampa native had to go through a period of heavy alcohol and drug addiction.

During her artistic career, Doechii encountered many difficulties when she was heavily discriminated against because of her black background and bisexuality.

The music genre that the girl born in 1998 pursues also clearly shows the dark sides of Doechii's personal life.

Doechii describes her music as "new generation" hip hop. Her work has been critically acclaimed, with comparisons to stars such as Nickj Minaj, Missy Elliot, Doja Cats, and Azelia Banks.

The albums she has released such as: Alligator Bites Never Heal (2024) or Bra-Less (2021), She/Her/ Black Bitch (2022) all received an average score of over 7 on music sites such as Metacritics or Pitchforks.

The female rapper shared that she loves women, both literally and figuratively, when she publicly came out as a member of the LGBT community.

Doechii is now completely sober and away from stimulants. She also encourages her young followers and fan community to live a healthy life with her great influence on social media.

Doechi has a clear vision of success and knows what it takes to get there. Alcohol, drugs, and nicotine are simply things that hinder an artist from achieving success, not tools that inspire them to make music.

"My projects don't come from alcohol, drugs, or parties. They come from days of sitting barefoot in the studio, working with my eyes rolled back," the rapper emphasized.
