Wax statue of former US President Abraham Lincoln melted in the hot sun - Photo: WASHINGTON POST
The wax statue of the late President Abraham Lincoln, about 1.8m tall, will be placed on the campus of an elementary school in Washington, DC, from February 2024.
But the majestic statue has now melted into strange shapes in the hot weather in the US, according to the New York Times .
The incident quickly became a hot topic on the American internet. Many people compared Mr. Lincoln to a pile of work emails, while others said the former president was resting after a tiring day at work.
Sculptor Sandy Williams IV, who also created the wax statue, said wax sculptures usually do not melt under normal summer temperatures.
Mr. Williams IV shared that the statue is made of paraffin wax, which can withstand temperatures up to 60 degrees Celsius. Normal temperatures on campus would have difficulty reaching this level.
However, he did not expect this to actually happen after seeing the wax statue of the late President Abraham Lincoln melted into disfigurement.

Sharing with the New York Times , Mr. Williams IV joked that today's wax sculptors need to pay more attention to environmental conditions, instead of just focusing on preserving historical values.
Mr. Williams IV said he did not feel too sad when the photo of the melted president spread on social media with countless jokes.
“I hope people will take the time to learn more about the historical stories behind the photos that have been circulating on social media,” added Mr. Williams IV.
America suffers extreme heat
Over the past week, many parts of the United States have been experiencing extreme heat waves. The US government has advised about 100 million people across the country to prepare for the upcoming hot summer.
The Mid-Atlantic states and some densely populated areas such as Washington and New York City recorded unusually high temperatures. Meteorologists predicted that temperatures in Washington could reach nearly 38 degrees Celsius.
States like Arizona, Louisiana, Florida, Kentucky and Ohio recorded temperatures near 39.5 degrees Celsius and could even be higher. In particular, temperatures in areas around Phoenix, Arizona could reach 44.5 degrees Celsius.
