U23 Vietnam has a chance to face Messi, Mbappe

FIFA recently conducted the draw and divided the groups for men's and women's football at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the men's event, 16 participating teams were divided into 4 groups, the top 2 teams in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.

The draw results put Olympic host France in Group A with Olympic USA, the winner of the intercontinental play-off and New Zealand. Meanwhile, Olympic Argentina is in Group B with Morocco, the Asian representative and Olympic Ukraine. Group C has U23 Spain, the Asian representative, Egypt and Dominican Republic. Group D will have Paraguay, Mali, Israel and another Asian team.

The Asian representatives for the men's football at the Paris Olympics 2024 will be determined through the 2024 AFC U23 Championship. Therefore, U23 Vietnam still has a chance to participate in this world-class tournament. If they reach the tournament through the intercontinental play-off, the Vietnamese players will be in the same group as the French Olympic team, the team that may bring Kylian Mbappe to the tournament.

Meanwhile, if they are one of the three teams with the highest achievements in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship, the young Vietnamese team will be able to be in the same group as Olympic Argentina, the team that wants to bring Lionel Messi to the Olympics.

According to FIFA and AFC regulations, the top 3 teams at the 2024 AFC U23 Championship will directly qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The fourth-placed team will play a play-off with U23 Guinea. Once they have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, teams will be allowed to add 3 players over the age of 23.

In women's football, 12 teams are divided into 3 groups, the top 2 teams in each group and the 2 best third-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals. Group A includes France, Colombia, Canada, New Zealand. Group B includes the US, Germany, Australia and 1 African representative. Group C includes Spain, Japan, Brazil and 1 African team.
