Implementing the Official Dispatch No. 07/CD-UBND of the Provincial People's Committee dated September 7, the two companies exploiting the irrigation works of Bac and Nam Thai Binh have opened the maximum drainage sluices in the entire system; mobilized all means to clear the flow to drain water; used forced pumps, combined with quick drainage to save crops flooded by the impact of storm No. 3.
Staff at An Quoc pumping station, Quoc Tuan commune are on duty 24/7 to operate 8 drainage gates in the northern communes of Kien Xuong district.
Pumping station operation was carried out from 2:00 a.m. on September 8. By 3:00 p.m. on September 9, the entire system had operated 23/23 pumping stations across the dike with a total of 177 pumps, with a total capacity of 625,100 m 3 /h. Of which, the Northern system operated 10 pumping stations with 99 pumps including: Hung Ha 3 stations (22 pumps), Quynh Phu 3 stations (36 pumps), Dong Hung 2 stations (14 pumps), Thai Thuy 2 stations (27 pumps); the Southern system operated 13 stations with 78 pumps including: Vu Thu 4 stations (26 pumps), Kien Xuong 5 stations (30 pumps), Thai Binh city 4 stations (22 pumps). In addition, some internal pumping stations were also operated to ensure drainage for production.
As of 7:00 a.m. on September 9, the water level at Tra Linh sluice gate on the field side was 1.15 m, on the sea side was 1.15 m; Nguyen bridge, Dong Hung town was 1.29 m; Lan sluice gate on the field side was 1.30 m, on the sea side was 1.44 m; Phuc Khanh, Thai Binh city was 1.59 m.
Quynh Hoa pumping station is operating a maximum of 8 pumps with a capacity of 8,000m 3 /h.
After storm No. 3, the whole province had about 18,000 hectares of rice tilted and fallen; 6,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice were damaged by 30-70%, 5,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice were damaged by over 70%; 585 hectares of newly planted winter vegetables and unharvested summer-autumn vegetables were affected by 30-70%, 2,760 hectares of newly planted winter vegetables and unharvested summer-autumn vegetables were affected by over 70%; 1,215 hectares of fruit trees were affected by 30-70%, 170 hectares of fruit trees were affected by over 70%.
Currently, the two companies exploiting the irrigation works continue to update the situation, assigning forces to be on duty 24/7 at the sluices and pumping stations to operate at maximum capacity, and urgently lower the water level in the fields to protect crops.
