Round 4 of the 2023 National Women's Football Championship was heated up by the event of the match between Vietnam Coal and Minerals Club and Ho Chi Minh City 1 Club being interrupted for a few minutes, before Duong Thi Van missed a penalty kick. Ho Chi Minh City 1 Club won 1-0 and led the rankings.

On November 27, the VFF Disciplinary Board decided to discipline head coach of Ho Chi Minh City Club 1 Doan Thi Kim Chi with 2.5 million VND and suspend her from the next 2 matches in the national football tournament managed by VFF due to her behavior causing the match to be temporarily interrupted.

After that, the Organizing Committee of the Women's National Championship also issued Notice No. 2 on the implementation of the VFF's disciplinary decision. Accordingly, Coach Doan Thi Kim Chi will not be on duty in the 5th and 6th matches of the 2023 Women's National Championship.

Coach Kim Chi

On the morning of November 28, Coach Doan Thi Kim Chi shared on social media: “In the 87th minute of the match, when the referee blew the penalty for the 11m penalty for the Vietnam Coal and Minerals team, I noticed that the players of the Ho Chi Minh City 1 team reacted strongly to the main referee and during the match, many situations that the referee team judged to be unfavorable and inhibited the fighting spirit of the players of the Ho Chi Minh City 1 women's football team. I personally do not want the conflict between the players of the two teams to happen like in 2018 at Thong Nhat Stadium, so I need to quickly prevent and correct the players' playing attitude to help them calm down to continue playing. Therefore, I asked the players to go to the area in front of the technical area of the Ho Chi Minh City 1 Club team (the players were still standing on the field) to remind and encourage them to help them calm down and try to play to continue avoiding bad images and causing bad impressions. After exchanging "After a quick 3-minute change, the HCM City 1 Club continued to enter the field to compete until the match ended successfully," according to the petition of coach Doan Thi Kim Chi requesting a review of the announcement of the National Women's Championship Organizing Committee and the VFF Disciplinary Board.

However, according to the media, the VFF Disciplinary Board, before deciding on the disciplinary penalty for Coach Kim Chi, carefully reviewed the relevant records. These included reports from the referee supervisor, match supervisor, referee team and related video tapes. In particular, there was a separate video tape (not the one recorded on television) clearly reflecting that the players of Ho Chi Minh City 1 Club on the field at that time had absolutely no reaction, preparing for the Vietnam Coal and Minerals Club to take the penalty kick, but were called off the field and stopped playing by Coach Kim Chi.

According to the regulations, only the referee has the right to stop the match. Coaches are not allowed to stop the match without the referee's permission. Based on this solid evidence, the VFF Disciplinary Board has imposed a fine of 2.5 million VND and banned coach Kim Chi from performing her duties in the 5th and 6th matches of the 2023 Women's National Championship.
